Congratulations again to our Mid-Year Sunday XI who on Sunday won the premiership for the third year in a row!
After losing the toss and being sent into bat, two early wickets saw us fall to 2/14 and in a spot of bother. Daniel Curnow and Robert Howes then set about steadying the ship, putting on an unbeaten partnership of 74 that ended up being the deciding factor in the match. Daniel Curnow retired on an unbeaten 52* to cap off an outstanding season with the bat that saw him be the leading run scorer in the league by a fair margin, whilst Robert Howes retired on an unbeaten 50* as he batted through the innings to provide us with much needed stability throughout. Dharmesh Patel (30*) and Chris Leutton (15*) then finished off the innings in terrific fashion, an unbeaten 48 run partnership helping push our final score to an imposing 5/199 off 35 overs.
With the ball, we never allowed our opposition to be in the hunt - early wickets setting them on the backfoot right from the start, before a steady procession of wickets and tight bowling eventually strangled them for just 96. Matt Johnson was the pick of the bowlers with 3/17 (off 7 overs), whilst Kumbu Jayasundera (2/22 off 6), Robert Howes (1/20 off 6) and Dharmesh Patel (1/15 off 4) never allowed the scoreboard to gain any momentum for Eastern Knights.
A big congratulations to all players who both played on the day and who represented the side throughout the season, as well as to our two co-captains in Robert Howes and Neeraj Raghav who led the side superbly throughout the season.
Well done Oaks on another successful winter season! ππ
