OK, ladies and gentleman punters, we’re halfway through the Wenzel Season, and the results thus far are proving that anybody could be in the race for the CUP!! Just look at the Mounting Yard this week with the first 5 place getters now all up in the Top 5 positions!!
Round 6 - It was a Heavy 8 in the morning and while the afternoon session looked promising it really only improved to a Soft 6 by the end with the high winds drying of the surface water despite being interspersed with bouts of showers.
Congratulations to Jeremy “MUDLARK” Hackett, who with the Winner’s Circle FIRST PLACE finish in the saddle catapults himself into 1st place on the bookie sheet, jumping 11 spots over the field. And with now only his 2nd placing and a 33% W/P Strike rate (a 2nd in round 3) proves this can be anyone’s trophy.
Notably, Jason Ren, with a handy SECOND PLACE, and like a tricked out Grey Stallion, kicks in the stirrups and wields the whip to weave his way from 20th to sitting in 5th. With a little more work to go on the rails in the congested field he is looking good if his form (5 placings out of 6 rounds) can break through for this possible “Banker”!
With a THIRD PLACING Cooper Hoppo follows Jeremy up the ladder with a 10 place “Ascending Form Cycle”, now sitting in 3rd place with a host of another 6 below him in easy striking distance. Facing a strong handicapp and despite returning to golf after a solid month off, odds on he is ready to be “Knocking on the Door” or will he hit “The Bounce”????
Annie Hunter remains in contention with a solid performance in FOURTH PLACE losing her sojourn at the top for 2 weeks. She is still “Seasoned and Flying” only 90 points from the lead she is a strong form mare scoring at a 83% Strike Rate so far and looking for the eventual “Black Type” victory.
Rounding out FIFTH PLACE was again - “surprise, surprise” the ever present John Pym who some consider to be a “Course Specialist” enjoying the track bias of a Stroke round. He has a record of 5-3-11-12-X-5 placings and while not having a top 2 podium finish, he isn’t heading to the glue factory just yet, so watch out for this one’s form come next month.
With the TOP 14 only being one WIN away from the lead there is still plenty of time for a positional swing. And for those further back in the field or thinking they are out to pasture, it’ll only take a couple of Bolters or Purple Patches for a Formline Turnaround to get you back in the winners circle and that elusive Correct Weight win!!
