THANK YOU Simpson Speedway and Victorian Speedcars for hosting the 84th Australian Speedcar Championship!

Speedcars Australia INC. extends a sincere thank you to the organisers, hosts, volunteers and sponsors who helped deliver the 84th Australian Speedcar Championship at Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway, Victoria in February.

Major events like the Australian Speedcar Championship don’t come together without months of planning, countless volunteer hours, and a whole community pulling in the same direction — and the Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway and Victorian Speedcar Drivers Association Inc team delivered exactly that.

A special thank you goes to the VSDA's Danielle Pearce, whose planning and promotional work in the lead-up to the championship and uodates over title week on this very page played a huge role in building momentum, and keeping followers informed.

We also congratulate the Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway club for hosting the championship for their very first time, and providing a venue and team that worked tirelessly to present the event to a high standard for competitors, crews and fans. Thank you!

Thanks also to the track sponsors who backed the show, including
Colac Wreckers
Hosey Transport
Gilbert’s Truck and Tractor
Vogels Motors
Rogerson Haulage
Heytesbury Otway Water
Apostle Signage Solutions
Mortimer Petroleum
C&H Trucking

We very much apppreciate the efforts of and thank alll Simpson Speedway track volunteers and Speedcars Australia volunteers who made the event possible. From race-day operations to behind-the-scenes support, volunteers are the backbone of our sport and we couldn't do it without you all.

Lastly a big shout out to the spectators at the track and watching live on Clay-Per-View from across Australia, New Zealand, and the United States - THANK YOU for supporting our event!

CAR OWNERS: Voting is now open for the 2025/26 proposed rule changes

Online voting for this season’s proposed rule changes is now open for registered Speedcars Australia car owners. There are seven (7) proposed changes this season, so please take a few minutes to read through the submissions and cast your votes. Voting can be completed on a PC/laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

Unique voting links are currently being sent to your registered email address via JotForm. Each survey link can be used only once. Owners with multiple registered cars will receive multiple emails with different links—please ensure you submit votes for each. If you don’t receive an email, please check your spam/junk folder before reaching out.

You can abstain from voting on any item if you choose, and there is a comment box at the end for any free-text feedback. Comments will be taken to the Speedcars Australia AGM to consider when final rulebook wording is being finalised. Photos have been added where provided by the submitter.

Summary of rule change submissions:
• Proposed change to the Maximum Displacement Forced Induction limits (HMO Hyundai) - Rule 6.1.4. Aimed at providing a lower-cost, reliable engine alternative and reducing barriers to entry.

• Trial of 2.2L multi-valve forced induction production engines: Proposes allowing stock production 2.2L multi-valve forced induction engines (methanol conversion only) under a two-year trial with a 400hp cap, to provide a more affordable option; includes enforceability measures such as a claim rule and dyno testing.

• National champion/placegetter numbering (Section 6.20): Proposes allowing the Australian Champion and the two placegetters to display Australia 1, 2, and 3 on their cars for the period the title is held, improving recognition and promotion when the A1 car is not racing in Australia.

• Australian Championship heat draws (Rule 7.8.1): Proposes removing state-based seeding requirements and moving to a pure marble draw at the Calcutta for a more modern, luck-of-the-draw approach.

• Right rear control tyre (from season 2027/28): Proposes a national right rear control tyre rule allowing either Hoosier SP3 or American Racer SD48 to reduce costs, with a delayed start to allow stock run-down and importer lead time. NOTE: As many will remember, a tyre rule was submitted and voted on last season; however, the submitter subsequently noted that the compounds selected had inadvertently created a disparity between the two available brands. This season’s proposal is intended to address that issue by specifying two compounds they believe to be comparable.

• No clashes with nominated blue-ribbon events: Proposes formalising a small set of national calendar weekends (including the existing Australian Title week plus one nominated blue-ribbon event per state) that other states must avoid clashing with, to protect car counts, prizemoney, and promotability.

• Ban axle-mounted wheel balancers: Proposes banning axle-mounted wheel balancers (e.g., CRW/Keizer/BP Fab) as an unnecessary cost item.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: Due to a number of changes made by Speedway Australia to their Racing Rules and Regulations this season, there have been knock-on impacts to the way we compete. Speedcars Australia will work on identifying all impacting changes for correction in the Speedway Australia Rules and Regulations, and as necessary bring some racing rules back into our own Racing Manual for season 26/27.

VOTING CLOSES:
Midnight 31 March 2026. Voting links will not work after this time.

QUESTIONS / SUPPORT:
If you have questions on the content of the proposals, you can discuss with fellow members, state Presidents & delegates, and scrutineers.

If you experience any issues with the online voting form itself, please contact us at [email protected].

85th Australian Speedcar Championship awarded to Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway — March 5–6, 2027

Speedcars Australia is proud to announce that the 85th Australian Speedcar Championship has been awarded to Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway (Queensland), with the blue-ribbon event set to be contested across Friday 5th March and Saturday 6th March 2027.

Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway is widely regarded as one of Queensland’s premier venues, with a strong history of hosting major speedway events and attracting fields from across Australia. It is a perfect host for the Australian Speedcar Championship, the longest running and the most prestigious title in Australian speedway which brings together elite Speedcar drivers and teams from Australia, New Zealand, and the United States for two nights of high-intensity competition, championship drama, and an unforgettable fan experience.

Across its long history, the Australian Speedcar Championship has been won by some of the sport’s most respected names — including Sir Jack Brabham, who won the title in 1948/49 — alongside multiple-time champions Andy McGavin and Ray Revell (five wins each), and modern-era standouts such as Adam Clarke, Warrenne Ekins, and Michael Figliomeni (four wins each). It also remains one of few championships where Australian, American, and New Zealand drivers have and can continue to write their name into the honour roll.

Toowoomba has already played host twice to the Australian Speedcar Championship, first in season 1994/95 where it was won by West Aussie Michael Figliomeni, and then in 2006/07 where American star Jerry C***s Jr took the win after a memorable battle to the finish line with NSW’s Mark Brown. That 06/07 story now carries an extra layer of meaning for fans, with Mark Brown being the father of Kaidon Brown, who became a three-time Australian Champion as of last weekend at Victoria's Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway.

Following the announcement at last week's 84th Australian Speedcar Championship Calcutta in Warrnambool, Speedcars Australia President Andy Pearce said the decision reflects the venue’s reputation for delivering first-class racing and a strong event experience.

“The Australian Speedcar Championship represents the very best of our division, and we’re excited to take the 85th running to Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway,” Pearce said. “Toowoomba Speedway has a proven track record of hosting major events and creating an atmosphere that competitors and fans genuinely look forward to. We can’t wait to see the country’s top Speedcar teams go head-to-head on March 5 and 6, 2027 — and to welcome the international talent that always adds something special to this championship.”

Further event information, including ticketing, schedules, and event updates, will be available via Toowoomba Speedway’s official channels, QSRA, and Speedcars Australia’s Australian Championship hub.

The popular Championship Calcutta will be hosted by Speedcars Australia’s local affiliated club, the Queensland Speedcar Racing Assos. (QSRA) on Thursday 4th of March 2027.

The dust has settled on the 2026 Australian Speedcar Championship!!

This was a project that started 5 years ago with a conversation that the great man Jim Lock struck up with Andy Pearce. This planted a seed.
A seed that came to flower on Friday night when the Australian Speedcar Championship preliminary night kicked off.

The heat racing was amazing, some of the best Speedcar racing that has been produced. Come the Prelim Finals 1 & 2, both finals were loaded with the best Speedcar drivers Australia has, plus some top international drivers.
Kaidon Brown and Brad Mosen took out the top spot in their respective finals.

Night 2, the day was a bit warmer and the flies a bit thicker.

Kicking off the night, the first winner was Q8 Scott Doyle taking out Best Presented Car, which was sponsored by Phil Lock and his family.

The spectators packed the hill with the biggest crowd of the season. Twenty tennis balls were thrown out to the kids in the crowd to set up driver presentations later in the night.

Again, the heat racing had everyone on the edge of their seats.

The pole shuffle of Speedcars at Simpson is possibly the best sliding you will see from drivers while still respecting racing room.

Pole position was about to be decided between Kaidon Brown and Brad Mosen. Unfortunately, we only got to see one run between the pair, as Brad had to pull in.

Driver presentations kicked off with 20 lucky kids getting the opportunity to present a driver with a medallion and getting themselves a signed Simpson Speedway cap from that driver.

We arrived at Championship Feature time. It kicked off with fire, fireworks, and a four-wide call by Ian “The Fly” Lewis.

Brown led the charge for most of the race, until Harry Stewart got past him after Brown got into the fence, washing away his race lead.

From there, Stewart started extending the lead until the technical cushion caught him out in Turns 3 and 4, sending the leader flying.

Brown was back to the front, where he led to the checkered flag, getting himself deeper into the history books and joining a small group of Speedcar drivers to achieve three championships.

We thank everyone who made this event possible. It was a huge undertaking for our volunteers, members, and committee to piece this all together.

To all the sponsors — without you, this kind of event doesn’t happen.

To the partners of our volunteers — thank you for understanding their love of the club.

To the support classes over the weekend — you guys put on some amazing racing. We hope you all enjoyed the weekend.

The race fans that support our track every weekend, we hope your entertained every weekend

And finally, Jim Lock. We wish you got to see this. We know you rallied the club to get on board with this idea as soon as you found out it was possible. Well, we did it, and we are sure you would have absolutely loved to see the cracking racing that was on.

With a bit of a break before our next race, we are going to take a few days to relax and then be back with the final two nights of the season.

Thankyou to our valued sponsors for the past weekend
