Our All Age Ladies decided today that we didn't want to miss out on having the opportunity to play a match with ZERO subs, like our other ladies teams have had over the last few weeks.
Up against a full strength Helensburgh who took advantage of the very first action of the game, we found ourselves behind after 30 seconds!
The girls regrouped and recomposed themselves knowing we'd not only have to come from behind, but do so without looking to the bench for reinforcements.
This seemed to light a fire in each and every one of us, and we found ourselves with a freekick in a very dangerous position.
Up stepped Bec Herring, who fresh off a halfway goal last match, once again turned into prime Beckham and lifted it up and over the keeper, slotting it home into the side netting.
Helensburgh only created 2 more chances in the first half, one was a goal mouth scramble that Grace Brown cleared twice off the line.
And the second was a very well taken corner and bullet header that we never had a chance at stopping. Fair play, great goal.
We finished the first half pushing hard for an equaliser as Helensburgh sat deep and threw everything they had behind the ball to keep us out.
The second half would be more of the same as we took control of large portions of the game, knocking the ball around and creating multiple attacking chances.
As the clock ticked towards 90' it was still somehow our 11 players pushing harder and harder with every kick!!
As any football fan knows, that's sometimes how the ball bounces, and the team looking more dangerous and likely to score doesn't get what's deserved.
Instead cruelly, as the clock ticked into the 92 minute, a scrappy chance bounced back out to Helensburghs' striker who finished well on the half volley.. the Ref blowing his full-time whistle before we even got the chance to restart.
A very proud Krakens coach stood on the sideline watching the team pull together and push a Helensburgh side that comfortably beat us just 12 months ago.
I couldn't be more impressed with some of the football played out there today, the heart and togetherness of this team is unbelievable.
We might not have got the result we wanted, but what you showed everyone watching today was more than what 3 points ever could.
Player of the match today -
Nikita Czornobej
Grew into the game in a different position and completely shut down her player over and over.
Your confidence and fight to not let their attacker get one up on you was a testament to your consistency and hard work at training since joining the club.
Well done Nikita, and well done ladies 🙌
