📰📰📰Here’s this weeks golf report (AKA ‘The Weekly Drivel) about what’s happening around the ‘Friendly Club’⤵️⤵️⤵️

Golf continued on its merry way on Saturday with our much-loved Don and Leslie Lister sponsored golf day, and to say spring has sprung, would be the greatest understatement since the pilot of British Airways Flight 9 told the passengers on his plane after volcanic ash had caused all four engines on the Boeing 747 to fail ‘We have a small problem, all four engines have stopped’. Not that anything was quite as dramatic as that, but we did cop some well below par weather during the early part of the day, with a howling, drying wind not conducive to much more than fanning a bushfire, which god help us doesn’t rear its ugly head this summer anywhere. It certainly has dried the old course out, and once again we’re already looking for that next drink of rain. As ordinary as the day was early, it improved lengths as the day went on and turned into a pleasant afternoon, which even had people reaching for a jumper come dark. As always, the day was very well supported with 52 golfers out to contest a 4 Ball Aggregate, for wonderful vouchers from Robb’s Butchery, courtesy of our fine sponsors Don and Leslie.
The winners with a huge score of 79 points were Connor and Doc Burley, with Doc playing the leading hand with a personal best of a whopping 48 points (24 either nine) on his own, and no doubt the old handicapper will be taking a good chunk off him, but just as equally it won’t worry him, because I’d reckon he might still have a few spare up his sleeve to play with. Doc was well supported by Connor throughout the round and held the team together when it counted. A great win for the brothers and continuing to fly the flag in the Simpson family tradition, both on the course and at the bar!!. The Runners-up on a countback with 72 points were Brodie Thompson and Chicky Parry, just in front of Jaymn Clearey and Billy Quarmby who had the same score, Jaymn also shot the lights out with 45 points, you could just about hear the screams from Coonamble as he submitted his score, no doubt Big J’s spot in any ambrose team over there might be in jeopardy, after the handicapper is also finished with him. Fourth place with 69 points was Toby Smith and Wayne Holmes, while a pair of battlers Brendan Smith and Jett Griffiths hung on for fifth pace. We also played an Individual in conjunction with the aggregate and once the dust settled, fittingly and keeping up with the sons, Kirsty Burley picked up the prize with a round of 41 points. No doubt there will be a stack of handicap adjustments forthcoming, so please do check your handicap via the Golf Australia app. A heap of nearest the pin prizes out there as always, W***y Black was nearest on the 2nd, Rodney Hebert was best over the cowal on the 4th, Simon ‘Thunder’ Bartley played a cracker to close range on the 9th, then proceeded to miss the putt. Dee Stephens won the 12th with a nice one, Mark Beetson grabbed the 14th, Reg Herbert played was best in two shots on the 16th after he virtually drove the green, and Brad McDougall set up birdie with a great shot on 17.
Thanks as always to Don and Leslie for their continued support, now and always, it and yourselves are greatly appreciated by all.

Sunday was an Individual Stableford, with Alex Miles saluting the judge with a very good round of 37 points, and probably the most pleasing thing for Alex was knocking his old man off in the process, with Kev running second with 36 points. Third place was three-way count back with Jodi Douglas finishing a little stronger to claim the last ball. Pin winners for the day were Alex Miles on the 2nd, Mandy Martin on the 4th, Jodi Douglas was nearest in two shots on the 11th, Michael Beetson was best on the 14th, while Kev Miles picked up a birdie after a very nice tee shot on the 17th.

⏺️⏺️⏺️Also during the week, and as well on Saturday we had golfers playing down at Trangie, firstly to the Vets on Thursday, and in a very pleasing result Jodie Stewart won the A Grade with 40 points, well done Jodie!! We were also around the money for the Ladies Open played on Saturday, with a great day had by all, it’s a top little track Trangie, and from all reports the girls loved the bit of extra run out there. Prize winners for the day were Jodie Stewart who backed up her midweek Vets form at Trangie by winning the A Grade Handicap, Jodi Douglas was Runner-up in A Grade Scratch, and Kylie Currans was Runner-up in C Grade Handicap. Well done to all the girls who represented the club.
⏺️⏺️⏺️We’ve got our Club Championships for the Men and Ladies on Saturday, with both played over 27 Holes. Last year was very well supported, so we’ll do it again this year with the same format, times, etc. Details are attached🖇️🖇️ We’d encourage all our members to come out and play, the 27 holes can sound like a bit of a drag, but we tee off early and are back in early…and everyone is in carts these days😁😁As always if anyone would like to tee off earlier than the advertised time, they are more than welcome too, just let us know in advance please. The weather is going to be spot on, and there’s no better place to be than on the course☀️☀️☀️…then get in and watch the horse racing, with the Spring Carnival about to kick into top gear plus the footy semis are getting underway…that sounds like heaven to most people, it really is the most fantastic time of year😍😍😍
⏺️⏺️⏺️The Bogan Gate Open is being held on Sunday, and we’ll have a solid contingent heading over to do battle. I don’t know anything about the course, but it always looks good from the road when heading past. Details are attached🖇️🖇️
⏺️⏺️⏺️Twilight Golf season is fast approaching, the hard working brains trust behind the hugely popular and ever successful event will have draws, team lists/contacts and reserves lists ready to go before Twilight Opening Day on Sunday of the Long Weekend, October 4th… more details to come very shortly.
⏺️⏺️⏺️With our Men’s Open (Sunday 27th Sept) also rapidly approaching, it’d be great to get a few extra helping hands out on the course. As always there is a mile of things that can be done, just an hour here or there makes a massive difference. If anyone is in a position to help out, contact Brendan, he’ll point you in the right direction. Many thanks.
Plenty of good things happening at the golfie, stick with us legends❤️💙❤️♥️
