Another fabulous report through from the weekend! Some of our best Stage 3 female players in GF action for Parramatta…

Over the weekend three of Winston Hills TWL Stage 3 girls, Ella M, Kyra P and Michelle P, representing the Parramatta Women’s Grade Cricket Club (PWGCC) played Wenty Leagues Black on their home turf in the final of the U15/2 PDCA competition. The PWGCC team is the only all girls team in the competition.

Day 1. PWGCC won the toss and chose to bat, scoring 121 on a very slow Harold Read Park. Kyra and Michelle contributing with 2 n.o. and 19 n.o. respectively.

Day 2. Wenty started their run chase. Kyra and Michelle opened the bowling. They were both in blistering form delivering one unplayable ball after the other. Working in tandem, at the end of their opening spell Wenty were 3/12 after 10 overs.

The wickets continued to fall at regular intervals when in the 25th over Ella took an awesome catch at square leg. Wenty now 7/35. Ella continued the pressure when she came onto bowl in the 34th over finishing her spell with very tidy figures of 0/3 from 4 overs.

In the 41st over the opening bowling pair of Kyra and Michelle working in tandem again started their second spell with Wenty now 8/53. The girls continued from where they left off with Wenty all out in the 43rd over. Final score PWGCC 7/121 victorious over Wenty Leagues Black 57. Kyra ended the day with the brilliant figures of 0/8 from 6 overs.

All of our Winsto girls played excellent cricket in the final working for each other and their PWGCC teammates. Michelle had a cracking day with the ball, finishing with figures of 5/7 from 7 overs! Our girls played with the same sportsmanship and fairness of play that they do each and every week for Winsto.

A special shout out to Ex Winsto long time player Lucy C. who kept for PWGCC throughout the competition, for putting in a season’s best performance with two catches, one a blinder, and for stopping countless leg bye and bye scoring opportunities to keep the pressure on Wenty.

Congratulations to our Winsto girls!

Congratulations to our B3 team on winning the premiership against Greystanes today!

This team was cobbled together late and comprised mainly of dads, their children and their mates. Many of them were playing seniors for the first time in an environment that saw them evolve quickly as players. The team won only one game before the Christmas break but kept at it and didn’t lose a single match afterwards! Finishing in 3rd after the regular season, B3 put in an all round team effort over 2 days to defeat Greystanes in a tight contest. Well done to all!

Thanks also to our sponsor The Winston Hotel for hosting our GF dinner last night! 🧡🏏🖤

U15/1 2025-26 GF Report:
A Knockout to Remember

Finishing 4th on the table, U15/1 earned their place in the knockouts, and what a journey it has been. After knocking out Wenty on their home turf at Monty Bennett in the semi final, the challenge only grew tougher as we faced Baulkham Hills at their fortress, Ted Horwood Reserve.

What followed was an absolute humdinger of a game.

We won the toss and elected to bat, an ideal start. Despite losing an early wicket, the boys showed composure and built a solid platform, reaching 67/2. However, cricket can be unpredictable, and a sudden collapse saw us bowled out for 86. Credit to the opposition for some disciplined bowling and sharp fielding that triggered the slide.

That said, the conditions told their own story. The outfield resembled a cow paddock; long, thick, and damp grass made stroke play extremely difficult. We knew that on this surface, 86 was no ordinary total, it was more like 180 on a standard ground. Leading from the front, Captain Aarya played a crucial innings, top-scoring with a composed 33.

With the batters done, it was time for the team to rise as a unit.

The plan was simple, hit the right areas, build pressure through dot balls, and back our bowlers with disciplined fielding. And the boys delivered when it mattered most. The bowling was tight and consistent, the fielding sharp and committed, and the intensity never dropped.

One moment that truly defined the match was Bradley’s spectacular catch, running backwards at an angle from deep square leg, tumbling, yet holding on brilliantly. That dismissal removed their key batsman and shifted the momentum firmly in our favour.

From there, the pressure only mounted. Every player contributed, every effort counted. The result, Baulkham Hills bowled out for just 65. Wickets were shared across the attack, highlighting a complete team performance.

Defending 86 on a challenging wicket required belief, discipline, and resilience, and this team showed all three in abundance.

An outstanding win, built on character and teamwork.

Well done boys you’ve truly earned this. Enjoy the moment and celebrate it!

Friday night saw the much loved annual Women of Winsto event celebrate the many good women in our club! An excellent representation of players, supporters and administrators enjoyed a fantastic evening of fun and conversation together.

With gratitude to…

🏏The organising committee - Kirrily, Deb, Lopa and Michelle for bringing such passion and flair to this proud fixture on our calendar.

🏏Two of our finest and busiest cricketers in Michelle and Izzy for eloquently sharing their player insights. Tina joined them on the panel, reminding us of the broader value of cricket and its lessons beyond the field. It was a highlight to hear from Julie, having had a great view of the evolution of the women’s game for many decades now!

🏏 Lopa for the table games and Michelle for organising the sweet treats!

🏏 All of the women and girls who came along on the night - the Club and our players are grateful for the rich and varied ways you support cricket all season!

I wasn’t going to say anything, but I feel something should be said, to call out an act of absolute selfishness. To see this in our own house is not something I take lightly.

Cricket is a TEAM sport. Without a few players, that TEAM suffers. I Completely understand if a player is sick, or something comes up that prevents them from playing….these things happen. We get by and make do.

Tonight, I heard our U14/1’s will be playing their semi final match short this weekend, because a few players are putting their self interests ahead of their TEAM, trialling for Rep cricket.

These kids are letting their team down, and in doing so, showing everyone else that being part of team means nothing to them.
I wonder though, is it kids making these choices, or the parents trying to live vicariously through their kids ? Either way, it’s disappointing and really poor form.

To the kids from our younger age groups who are stepping up to fill in, I wish you all the best. You should be proud of yourselves for putting your hand up and saying, “yeah, I can do that”.
