Behind every game day, training session, sausage sizzle, clean clubhouse, stocked canteen and organised team… there are volunteers making it happen.

To our committee members, coaches, team managers, canteen helpers, lolly & fruit bringers, busy bee legends, umpires, scorebench helpers, turf set-up crews, washers of uniforms, and everyone working quietly behind the scenes — THANK YOU.

Community sport simply doesn’t happen without people willing to give their time, energy and care for others. Your efforts create opportunities, friendships, memories and a club our players are proud to be part of.

How to stop players from spiraling after a mistake mid-game.⁠
⁠
Because what ruins players isn’t the error, it’s the emotional tailspin that follows.⁠
⁠
You miss a pass…⁠
Then overthink.⁠
Then hide.⁠
Then lose rhythm.⁠
And suddenly the whole game’s gone.⁠
⁠
So instead:⁠
A 3-step bounce-back system.⁠
⁠
Here’s how it works:⁠
⁠
Awareness Cue⁠
You can’t change what you don’t catch.⁠
We train players to recognise the first sign of spiral and cut it with a short phrase.⁠
Something like: “Reset.” “Back in.” “Let’s go.”⁠
⁠
Reset Anchor⁠
We give the body something simple and consistent.⁠
Breath. Tug. Ground tap.⁠
It’s not random. It’s trained.⁠
⁠
Next-Play Focus⁠
Mistakes don’t need to be fixed. They need to be followed by action.⁠
One clean pass. One press. One recovery run.⁠
That’s how you take back control.⁠
⁠
This reset loop is what separates elite players from emotional ones.

🍎🍏2026 FUEL TO GO & PLAY JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPS🍎🍏

In 2026, the Fuel to Go & Play Junior Club Championships will introduce update age groupings for all competitions. There will now be two divisions of J7/8/9 and J10/11/12.

These changes reflect the structure used in some regional junior competitions and aim to create a fresh experience for metropolitan clubs.
The revised format will give teams access to a broader pool of players compared to previous years, with the goal of supporting separate Girls and Boys competitions in the J10/11/12 division.

Mark the dates in your diary, book some accommodation (hint: with a late cancellation) and lets make this a great year for Avon teams.

🏑 A huge THANK YOU to the volunteers at the Avon Hockey Association for the massive effort involved in putting together the 2026 fixtures!

It’s a huge job behind the scenes, balancing teams, venues, times and logistics — and without your hard work and dedication, we simply wouldn’t have a season.

OVERHEADS….

Do you have this level of control when receiving overheads 🏑?

Most players just bring it down and react. The difference here is in the first touch - taken forward into space, under the eyes, with body position already facing the attacking goal.

Control isn’t just stopping the ball.
It’s where you take it.

At the Northam Show this Saturday, there is a young farmer challenge (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdiO5-zNmkU&ab_channel=AgriculturalShowsOfAustralia)
There is $200 as prize money for the winning team of 4 and $100 for the second place team, plus some tickets to the Perth Royal Show.
Get 4 members who are 18-35 who would be keen to run around for 10-15 minutes doing this and possibly winning the prize.
