WEEKEND PL RESULTS 🐼⚽
The squad made the trip up to Inverell this weekend with a small group, but one ready to put in a shift.
Reserve Grade | 1-1
It took just 8 minutes to break the deadlock after Jack Todd cut inside on the wing and laid it off to Steve Holland, who unleashed an absolute rocket from 30 yards out that flew into the back of the net, a serious goal of the year contender.
Inverell responded shortly after, before both sides battled it out for the remainder of the match in a stop-start contest filled with fouls. In the end, the boys took home a point on the road.
A thank you as well to the First Grade players who backed up and helped out with numbers in Reserve Grade.
First Grade | 0-2
Another rotated side headed into the clash against the back-to-back premiers but competed strongly throughout the match, creating some quality chances of their own. Lucas Martins came agonisingly close twice in the opening half before Inverell broke through on the counter attack just before the break.
The boys had good moments pressing high and playing some quality Northies football. Early in the second half, Lucas França led the press brilliantly, dispossessing the centre back and finding himself one-on-one, only to be denied by the keeper. Inverell then later capitalised on an unfortunate moment to score their second of the match.
Despite this, Josh Tumbridge was Northies’ standout performer, pulling off several quality saves and staying solid throughout the match.
A special mention as well to Lachie Snape, who made his first First Grade start after already playing a full 90 minutes in Reserve Grade following Brayden Finlay’s injury while filling in.
We’d also like to thank Inverell FC for their hospitality and for hosting us well on the day.
Plenty to work on and we go again this week.
Go Northies! 🐼⚪⚫
