Officials: The Backbone of Our Sport π
When people think of our sport, they see the riders, the bikes, and the race day action. What they donβt always see is what makes it all possible β the officials working behind the scenes.
No officials = no events.
Officials keep everything safe, fair, and running to the rules. They are essential to every single race day.
It starts with the Level 1 Operating Official Course, completed online. This is the entry point into officiating and provides the basic knowledge needed to get involved at club level.
From there, experience is built on the ground β assisting at events, learning how things run, and developing real understanding of race operations.
As officials grow, they can move into key roles such as Steward, Clerk of Course, Technical Officer, or Race Secretary. Each pathway has its own training and accreditation to build the skills needed for that role.
With experience comes responsibility β stepping up, supporting event delivery, and applying knowledge in real situations.
As our sport evolves, so do our standards. Experienced officials who have been in the sport for many years are now required to complete updated online training and accreditation to ensure everyone is aligned with current rules, systems, and best practice.
Itβs all about consistency, safety, and keeping our sport moving forward.
Whether brand new or long-serving, every official plays a vital role in making events happen.
A huge thank you to all our officials β past, present, and future. Your time, effort, and commitment keep our sport alive.
