Looking for a comp this Sunday?

Sydney Intervarsity Fencing League are hosting an opens foil and novice sabre and epee!

This comp is great for all our newer fencers who have come through our learn to fence courses in the past 2 years and who want a taste of what completion is like in our sport! Or for our foilists who lurk within the club wanting some of the spotlight and want to win some medals for the club (or get some good experience)!

More details are over on the Intervarsity fencing league pages or on our discord!

The Sydney Intervarsity Fencing League is back for 2026 with the first comp next weekend on the 1st March!

For those who didn't fence at any SIFL comps last year, these are open competitions we hold together with USYD and UNSW Fencing clubs to allow fencers to more regularly fence people they may often not get to, whilst also getting a good feel for what a tournament feels like!

They are open to all, and we try to keep them as approachable and friendly as possible, while also providing high-level competition for those who want to win it! Achieving good results at these comps gains points for our club, with a shield being awarded at the end of the year to the Uni that performed the best!

This year, we will also be creating an individual ranking system to allow fencers to set goals and track their rank progress over the year. I highly recommend fencing this first comp to get a good baseline rank to act as a goal for development over the year.

More details, as well as the rego link, can be found over on the Sydney Intervarsity Fencing League page!

If you require borrowing gear for the comp, send us an email at [email protected] or come chat with an exec on Friday :)

Hope to see you there! Let's go MQFencing!

We hope everyone is settling into 2026 well and that your January was fantastic!

We're looking at an exciting year for fencing at MQU as we look to continue expanding and growing as a club. Some early year initiatives are already underway if you haven't seen them already on our Instagram or Discord; we are finalising our merch drop, so if you're interested, make sure to sign our EOI below (Designs are in the form).

As well as merch, we have more competitions than ever planned throughout the year. Check out our competition schedule below!

Kickstart (formerly Oweek) is also coming up, and we are looking for volunteers to help us advertise the club to new students! We'd really appreciate your help in managing the stall or demonstrating the sport on campus. It's a great opportunity to get involved with the campus life side of the club! EOI for that is also below :)

Welcome to the 2025 Sydney Intervarsity Fencing League!

It's MQU vs UNSW vs USYD!

Hey team, this has been a project in the works for a while and we're finally able to start it up! A friendly league between the three of us Unis in Epee and Sabre to fence off for the Epee Cup, Sabre Cup and the grandiose Intervarsity Shield at the end of the year!

So what is the league? Glad you asked! The League is a series of comps throughout the year where you gain points for your university based on placement, and since every place gets at least a point even competing is seriously helping the club! This means it's a great atmosphere to try out competitions and still earn some Uni points with the support of the club, or strive to thrive on the piste and improve competitively!

Who can participate? Literally anyone! You do not need to be a student at MQU and there are no age restrictions! Simply select MQU as the University you wish to represent when you sign up and that's all there is to it!

Now another big question, cost. Fencing has issues with accessibility in many areas of the sport, from gear to affiliation to competition entry; these stack up. At MQFencing we really push for accessibility, thus the focus on supplying gear. Well, the League is also designed to get new people competing and so we have tried to make it as affordable as possible, the first competition (see more details on the page!) is $35 entry!

Go give the page a follow! Have a look at the yearly schedule! (We have Teams and Novice events planned as well!) and get excited to come together under the MQU banner, support each other and have some great fun and memories fencing together!

Let's make this a year of building the fencing community and having fun stabbing each other!

Go MQU!
Your Pres,
Cian

Salutations Everyone!

Just a reminder that fencing tonight will be in the Courtyard Studio!
We will be back in the normal venue next week!

Huzzah! We have made it to the end of the year and now are facing the arrival of the MQU Fencing Championship. Will you try and immortalize your name as the MQU champion? Or will you compete to come back better next year! In all seriousness, the championship is a great way to provide a climax to you...
