The mum guilt that nurtured my inner child 💛

Recently, I found myself sitting in a difficult moment with my daughter.

She was struggling, and if I’m honest, I was carrying a lot of guilt. The kind of guilt that makes you question whether you’re doing enough, saying the right things, or getting motherhood “right.”

As we talked, I noticed myself wanting to react defensively.

Then something unexpected happened.

I realised I wasn’t just looking at my daughter.

I was looking at a younger version of myself.

A little girl who remembered what it felt like to be misunderstood, unheard, vulnerable and unsure of how to communicate what she needed.

Instead of reacting from that wounded place, I chose to respond to my daughter in the way I wish someone had responded to me.

And in doing so, something beautiful happened.

My daughter’s needs were met.

And so were some of my own.

What started as mum guilt became an opportunity for connection, healing, and a powerful reminder that our children often reveal the parts of ourselves that still need nurturing.

Sometimes parenting isn’t just about raising our children.

Sometimes it’s about healing alongside them. ✨

Have you ever had a moment with your child that taught you something about yourself?

Why do some people fear being abandoned, while others pull away when relationships become emotionally close?

Why do some people overthink every text message, while others struggle to communicate how they truly feel?

A lot of it comes back to attachment.

Your attachment style is the emotional blueprint you developed for love, safety, connection, and protection. It influences how you show up in relationships, how you respond to conflict, how you communicate your needs, and how safe you feel being emotionally vulnerable.

In our next podcast episode: “Understanding Your Attachment Style”, I unpack:
• The 4 attachment styles
• How childhood experiences shape adult relationships
• Fear of abandonment vs fear of intimacy
• The nervous system’s role in relationships
• Why we chase, withdraw, people please, or shut down
• How healing secure attachment is possible

The most important thing to remember is that your attachment style is not your identity. It is a learned survival pattern.

Awareness creates the opportunity to heal, grow, communicate differently, and build healthier relationships, both with others and with yourself.

Because love was never meant to feel like survival.

Most of us think self-esteem is something that changes depending on the day…

A mood.
A mindset.
A reflection in the mirror.

But self-esteem is actually shaped by something much deeper, our subconscious mind! The repeated story you tell yourself about who you are, what you’re worth, and how the world sees you.

These are limiting beliefs that circle through the subconscious mind.

“I’m not good enough.”
“I don’t belong.”
“People always leave.”
“I have to prove myself to be loved.”

The hard part is that these beliefs feel true because they’ve been repeated in the subconscious mind for years, often since childhood.

This is why positive affirmations alone don’t always work.

You can repeat “I am confident” all day long, but if your nervous system and subconscious mind still believe you are unsafe, unworthy, or not enough, the affirmation will struggle to stick.

Real change begins when you become aware of the beliefs running the show.

When you stop blindly believing every thought.
When you challenge the narrative.
When you consciously rewrite the story through cognitive reframes your mind can actually accept.

Self-esteem isn’t built through perfection.
It’s built through awareness, honesty, healing, and repetition.

You are not your limiting beliefs.
And you are allowed to create new ones.

For 15 years, training has been a huge part of my life.

But if I’m really honest the reason why I trained has changed through every season of my life.

At first, it came from poor body image. Wanting to be smaller. Leaner. More accepted. More enough.

Then training became survival.
When I became a single mum, the gym became the place I held myself together. The place I went to cope, escape, regulate, and breathe.

And over the last few years, especially through CrossFit, training became healing. It gave me purpose. It made me feel strong. Confident. Capable. Worthy.

I truly believed it saved me in so many ways.

But after an injury and being unable to train the way I normally do I’ve been forced to sit with a really uncomfortable question:

Who am I without training?

Because without it, I’ve realised how much of my confidence, self-worth, and identity I attached to movement and performance.

Without training:
I don’t always feel strong.
I don’t always feel good enough.
My self-talk becomes negative.
I question my body.
I feel disconnected from myself.

And I know I’m not the only woman who feels this way.

This episode is a raw and honest conversation about identity, injury, self-worth, body image, healing, and learning who you are outside of performance.

NERVOUS SYSTEM WORKSHOP ❤️‍🔥

Have you ever felt overwhelmed, anxious, shut down, or like you’re constantly “on edge” and wondered why? Our Nervous System Workshop is designed to help you finally understand what’s happening inside your body and how to work with it, not against it.

During this in-person experience, we’ll break down your nervous system in a way that’s simple, relatable, and actually makes sense. You’ll learn how your body responds to stress, why you react the way you do in certain situations, and how your past experiences may have shaped the way you feel today.

This isn’t about fixing you (because you’re not broken), it’s about giving you the awareness, tools, and confidence to support yourself in a whole new way.

Inside this workshop, you’ll learn:

☑️ What the nervous system is and how it works (in real-life terms)

☑️ The different states (fight, flight, freeze, and regulated) and how to recognise them in yourself

☑️ Why your nervous system has adapted the way it has

☑️ What your body is trying to communicate through anxiety, overwhelm, or shutdown

☑️ Practical tools to regulate your nervous system and feel more in control

You’ll also be guided through simple breathwork, regulating and grounding techniques that you can take into your everyday life. This is a safe, supportive space where you can connect, reflect, and start to understand yourself on a deeper level, without judgement or pressure.

Whether you’re someone who feels constantly stressed, emotionally reactive, disconnected, or just curious to learn more about yourself, this workshop will meet you where you are. Walk away feeling more aware, more grounded, and more connected to your body.

Episode 60 & a FREE giveaway ✨

Motherhood is beautiful but it can also feel overwhelming, lonely, identity shifting, exhausting, fulfilling, & everything in between.

This Mother’s Day, I wanted to create something deeper than just celebrating what mothers do, I wanted to create a space where mothers could feel seen within what they carry.

So I created a FREE Mother’s Day Reflection Guide which is also discussed in today’s special episode on the KFIT Mind & Body Podcast 🤍

A gentle journaling guide designed to help you pause, reflect, reconnect with yourself, and honour your motherhood journey, both the beautiful parts and the hard parts that often go unseen.

Inside are reflective prompts to support you in:
✨ reconnecting with yourself
✨ acknowledging your current season of motherhood
✨ processing what feels heavy
✨ redefining what “enough” means
✨ and remembering that you are more than the pressure you place on yourself

You do not need to have it all together to be a good mother.

You are already enough.

Happy Mothers Day to you all!

Download the FREE guide through the link in my bio or visit www.kfitmindandbody.com 🤍
