Rest is often misunderstood as time off, but it isn’t downtime — it’s part of the work.

Between sets and exercises, your body is doing important work: restoring energy, resetting the nervous system, and supporting coordination so your next effort is effective and intentional.

Different training uses rest differently: strength work often needs longer recovery, while endurance and movement-based training uses shorter, active rest. In Pilates, rest is brief and intentional — built around breath, alignment, and control.

Used well, rest doesn’t slow training down — it elevates it.

Can group Reformer Pilates be individualised?
Yes! Group classes can be structured to allow individualisation in Pilates.

While the class follows a shared framework, each client is working within their own progression over time, developing strength, control, coordination, and movement capacity.

We use structured increases in challenge alongside individual adjustments such as regressions, progressions, cueing, and load to ensure each person is appropriately supported and challenged.

Clients also learn strategies within class to guide their own movement—such as recognising when to increase or reduce challenge, adjusting range to maintain control, and understanding what effective effort feels like.

The result is a group environment where the structure is shared, but the experience and progression are personal and purposeful.

This morning we had the pleasure of hosting a beautiful family Pilates session, with three generations coming together in the studio to move, stretch, and share the same space. It was lovely to see everyone supporting each other, sharing a laugh, and enjoying some mindful movement side by side.

Sessions like these are a great reminder that Pilates isn’t just an individual practice — it can also be a shared experience that brings people together in a meaningful way.

If you’d like to organise a family, friends, or group Pilates session, we’d love to hear from you. Reach out to us to chat about creating a session tailored to your group — whether it’s a special occasion, a wellbeing activity, or simply a chance to move together and enjoy some time out.
