“I wanna get huge” 💪🏽 I hear this ALL THE TIME, and to be honest…. I’ve even said it once or twice myself but I need you to understand, just lifting weights and sipping on that protein shake is going to cut it bro. Well, at least not in isolation.
Yes, regular workouts are part of the process, but there's SO much more involved. Increasing muscle mass and strength is a complex process that requires dedication and to a degree, some personal sacrifice.
When you lift weights that challenge your limits, a series of micro-tears develop within your muscle fibres. The body's automatic response is to immediately begin repairing them by increasing the number of cells in the affected area. As this process continues over an extended period of time, muscle mass increases. However, the rate and extent of the process is dependent on a number of variables:
☑️ Protein / calorie consumption
☑️ Workout frequency
☑️ Time spent on each muscle group
☑️ Rest between sets
☑️ Rest between workouts
☑️ Quality and quantity of sleep
☑️ Quality of diet
Building muscle mass and "bulking up" requires a holistic approach to health and fitness, along with a structured, science-based approach to working out.
When a client begins their fitness journey with me, we look at all of the above to create a training program and nutrition plan inline with achieving their particular goals. There is no one size fits all answer.
