Mt Hawthorn Cardinals JFC

Mt Hawthorn Cardinals JFC www.cardies.club The Cardies are a Junior Aussie Rules Football Club competing in the East Perth District and based at Manzies Park in Mt Hawthorn.

Children come from many neighbouring suburbs and schools. Since incorporation in 1990, we have been operating as a Football Club to promote and encourage participation in junior football, provide coaching and football instruction and to encourage our members to participate. We have around 500 boys and girls playing football every weekend. This is broken into 3 categories based on school years:

Auskick – Pre-Primary to Year 2
Mods Competition – Yr 3- 6
Youth Competition – Yr 7 -12

πŸ”΄πŸ”΅ Team of the Week - Year 3/4 Girls πŸ”΄πŸ”΅

These girls bring endless energy, enthusiasm, and determination to everything they do. Their teamwork is something truly special, with every player supporting and encouraging one another both at training and on game day. They are always eager to learn new skills, challenge themselves, and give 100% every time they step onto the field.

Girls' footy is about so much more than the game itself. It builds confidence, resilience, leadership, and lifelong friendships. Watching these young players grow in skill and self-belief each week is a reminder of just how important community sport can be. Whether they're celebrating a great play, helping a teammate up, or having a laugh together after training, they embody everything that makes footy great.

Our Year 3/4 Girls are currently looking for a team sponsor. If you or your business would like to support this amazing group of young athletes and help grow girls' footy in our community, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with the club for more information.

We are incredibly proud of this group of talented young girls and can't wait to see what they achieve throughout the season. The future of girls' footy at the Cardies is looking very bright!

Round 8 - The weekend that was!

Friday night saw our girls play one of their best games yet, showing great determination, teamwork, and skill. Their improvement continues to impress, and they should be incredibly proud of their efforts.

Saturday marked the start of the Auskick Gala Series, with our young Cardies having a blast learning how to play as part of a team. It was wonderful to see the kids supporting each other, building confidence, making new friends, and discovering that footy is about much more than just kicking a ball.

A special shoutout goes to our Year 9 boys, who were decimated by injuries and took the field with just 14 players. Despite the odds, they showed incredible resilience, fought their way back into the game, and came away with a fantastic win. A true display of the Cardies spirit!

On Sunday, our girl Auskickers took centre stage, giving their all at training as they prepare for their Gala Day this Sunday. Their enthusiasm and commitment were great to see.

The Cardies did some wonderful things this weekend, with players of all ages showing teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination. We couldn't be prouder of our club and everyone who helped make it such a successful weekend.

πŸ‰ East Perth District Auskick Gala Series Starts This Weekend! πŸ‰

Our Pre-Primary and Year 1 boys will take part in the Gala Day this Saturday at Dayton District Open Space, playing a series of lightning-round matches against other local clubs.

Girls and Year 2 players will have Auskick as normal on Sunday, with the girls' Gala Day taking place on 28 June at Des Penman Reserve. Further details regarding the girls' Gala Day will be provided in the coming week.

These Gala events are a fantastic opportunity for our young players to put their skills into action, build confidence, develop teamwork, and enjoy the excitement of game day in a fun and supportive environment. Most importantly, it's all about having fun, making friends, and continuing to grow their love of footy.

We can't wait to see our young players out there enjoying themselves and representing the club with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Good luck to all our rising stars!

πŸ§¦β€οΈπŸ’™ SOCK IT TO SARCOMA! β€οΈπŸ’™πŸ§¦

This Round 8 (19–21 June), we're encouraging all players, parents, volunteers, and supporters to get involved in Sock it to Sarcoma by wearing your odd or crazy socks and making a donation to support this important cause.

Sarcoma is a group of rare and aggressive bone and soft tissue cancers that can affect people of all ages. It is the second most common cancer in children aged 0–19 and accounts for 10% of cancers in young people aged 15–25. Sadly, sarcomas in children and young adults can often be mistaken for sporting injuries, leading to delays in diagnosis.

πŸ’› How you can help:
🧦 Wear your odd or crazy socks during Round 8
πŸ’° Make a donation
πŸ“± Use the QR code or donation link to contribute electronically

Every donation raised across the weekend will help fund:
πŸ”¬ Vital medical research
πŸ“š Education and awareness
🀝 Support services for people living with sarcoma and their families

Together, we can raise awareness, support those affected, and help make a difference.

TOTW Year 8

Many of these players have been together since Auskick days, building strong foundations early on. This season, we’re also excited to welcome some new faces to the team. Over the years, lasting friendships have formed alongside a fantastic team culture, with players consistently supporting one anotherβ€”whether celebrating success or encouraging each other when things don’t go their way. They love a banner run and never miss a chance to sing the Cardies song, showing the pride and spirit that defines the group.

Round 7

Winter has officially kicked in!

Friday night saw two games down at Charles Veryard Reserve, and it was cold the kind of cold that cuts right through you between quarters.
Out on the sidelines, the hot chocolates and pizzas quickly became the real MVPs of the evening, keeping everyone warm while we were treated to some of the best footy we’ve seen all season. Hard, fast, and entertaining from start to finish β€” well worth sticking it out in the chill.

Saturday was also blisteringly cold at times, but mostly dry β€” the kind of winter day where the air bites a little, but the rain held off just enough to make it manageable on the ground. The teams matched it with real intent. They played with drive, toughness, and competitive edge.

Sunday, though, flipped the script. A cold front rolled through and brought the proper winter footy weather β€” showers coming in, wind shifting, and that damp chill that makes you question every life choice between quarters . Definitely one for the jackets and hot chips.
Regardless of the cold and the rain, the teams still show up anyway β€” they are fierce, committed, and built for this kind of footy.

Special mention to Casper Wood from Year 9 on reaching his 50th game! A well deserved Coaches Award winner for 2025, and a player who consistently kicks goals with both feet making him a constant threat on the field. Beyond his skills, it’s his work rate, determination, and willingness to do the hard things for the team that really stand out. Congratulations Casper, keep it up!

Despite the conditions, the footy played this weekend was full of grit, effort, and real quality. No shortcuts, no excuses β€” just hard contest after hard contest, played in true Cardies style.
