Broke our 96 hour (4 day) fast with a small meal of 50g liver, 1/4 avocado & an egg cooked in tallow and salt.
Two hours later, a cattlemans cutlet.
Last meal Wednesday 2.30pm. Next meal Sunday 2.30pm.
We used this fast as a primal reset that will now become an annual event for varying lengths of time.
Over the 4 days, we consumed nothing but water and salt.
Initial day
- Fasted until 2.30pm then had our last meal > cattlemans cutlet and mango with cream and honey.
- Felt fine. Normal training session. Just missed the routine of sitting down to a meal together in the evening.
Day 1 - 24 hours
- Rough. Just rough. Woke hungry and stayed hungry. Had massive headache most of the day.
Did a heap of computer work and found it hard to concentrate. Energy levels were low. Had a 5 minute nap.
- Dropped 1.8kg overnight
Day 2 - 48 hours
- Woke in ketosis and felt fine all day. No headache. Trained at 9am after 42 hours of fasting. Hunger levels very mild. Again, just missing the ritual of food more than food itself. Compared to yesterday, today was a piece of cake… if only.
- Dropped 1.2kg overnight
Day 3 - 72 hours
- Through the day, hunger levels no different to yesterday. Energy levels great. Again, felt completely normal. Hunger increased slightly from 4pm to bedtime but nothing drastic.
- Dropped 1.2kg overnight
Day 4 - 96 hours
- Final day. Hunger levels the same, no worse. Really just got a bit bored the last two days as hunger levels didn’t increase.
- Dropped 400g overnight
Dropped a total of 4.6kg. Was not super hungry by the end of the fast. Mental boredom and missing the routine and ritual of eating was harder than any actual hunger pains.
Got some food prep done before ending our fast. Will start each day with a bulletproof coffee & 50g of raw liver.
Next meal will be mince (& rice on training days) or lamb & avocado. Final meal scotch fillet, eggs, mango & raspberries.
Benefits of a long fast:
• Around the 48 hour mark, growth hormone levels are 5x higher.
• At 54 hours, the body becomes more insulin sensitive.
• Then at 72 hours, the body breaks down old immune cells and creates new ones.
