The club has announced that Tom Powell has signed a brand new contract keeping him with North until the end of 2028. This is very exciting news and I’m keen to see how Tom continues to function in our side. As a big fan of his, I’m happy to see him be rewarded for his consistent contribution to the team! Let’s hope Tom can keep kicking goals and we can continue listening to the beautiful songs of KSI.

Let me know what you think in the comments and who else we can sign on long term, hopefully Wardlaw is next! Go Roos!

Cal Twomey has reported that Nick Larkey will be taking over the captaincy from Jy Simpkin in 2026. This comes after Jy expressing interest in a trade earlier in the year.

Twomey has said that the players voted for Larkey to be captain and the rest of the leadership group which is set to include: Harry Sheezel, LDU, Tristan Xerri, Charlie Comben and Cam Zurhaar.

Personally I think this was the best choice for the club, I love everything that Souva does and I think he can lead us until Sheez is ready.

I also hope that this might help Jy again in the long run. A point that has been echoed by Marnie from and Josh from that after LMac stepped down from the captaincy he was playing some of his best footy. Let’s hope that’s the same for Jy, he still has heaps to contribute to the club even if he’s not an official leader anymore.

Let me know what you think of Captain Souv in the comments. Would you have picked a different captain? If so, who? Go Roos!

We waited and we saw. North Melbourne are back to back premiers in the AFLW as we take down Brisbane 9.2.56 - 2.4.16. The girls are just so impressive.

I loved the way we went about it tonight, pure pressure, pure class the entire night. Not to diminish Brisbane’s efforts, but my lord we were able to just monster them.

Eilish Sheerin was so incredible tonight, I’ve been waiting for a performance from her like that all season. 28 disposals, 2 goals, absolutely deserving of best on ground.

Ash Riddell obviously incredible again, I love everything she contributes to this team, there’s a reason she’s a best and fairest winner.

Jasmine Garner incredible, need I say more 28 disposals and a goal.

Every girl was absolutely spectacular tonight, but I want to shout out Tess Craven, Jenna Bruton, Ruby Tripodi, Eliza Shannon, and Emma Kearney who absolutely tried their guts out all night.

Thanks for following along this season, it’s been absolutely incredible, I love the support. Let me know what you thought of the game and our girls. I’ll be back following the men’s pre-season and of course will be following the girls when they’re back next year. Go Roos!

That was a scary win. We managed to beat the Demons 6.10.46 - 5.6.36. I was really scared there, but we got there in the end.

A big thank you to Jasmine Garner who stepped up in that final quarter to win the game for us as she got 32 disposals and a goal. Same to Ash Riddell who got us with 24 disposals and a goal. The real hero once again was Bogue as she kicked 3 goals that we desperately needed. She has been such a revelation.

The effort from these girls was absolutely great today, we survived a massive onslaught from a in form Demons team who nearly took it from us. I really appreciated the work of Tripodi, Sheerin and Kearney today. They all put in a great effort and I was very very happy to see it.

Honestly I’m too exhausted from watching the game to provide any deeper thoughts than that. But I’ll provide a bigger update next week after the granny, where we’ll absolutely destroy either Brisbane or Carlton.

And there we have it, another year, another draft done and dusted. In addition to our pick of Lachy Dovaston on the first night. We have taken two more.

With pick 26, we have taken 194cm key defender Blake Thredgold. I am super excited about the prospects here. He is exactly the type of defender we need on the list and I guarantee he’s going to be a fantastic addition to the team. Everything I’ve heard about him so far seems absolutely elite. Can’t wait!

Then at pick 48 we have taken 181cm forward-mid Hugo Mikunda. He’s said to have great foot skills which will be amazing for us. I know some people are disappointed in us getting yet another midfielder but the truth is we need the depth, and hopefully Hugo can push for a place in the best 23.

Super keen and excited to see these kids in action next year and for years to come! Go Roos!

North Melbourne have selected 178cm small forward Lachy Dovaston from the Eastern Ranges in the AFL draft with pick number 11 that we traded with Carlton for.

I am personally really excited to have brought him on board to North. He looks a gun! He seems to be a similar type of player to Nick Watson, which is something we desperately need. Let’s hope he’s the final piece in our forward line.

The draft continues tomorrow where we hold picks 24 and 54. Let’s see who we pick up! Go Roos!

With a scrappy win we move onto a preliminary final as we take down Hawthorn 5.12.42 - 0.3.3. There was a bit of biff in this game as the girls had a few scraps with one another, but like always we came out on top.

The star of this game for me was Erika O’Shea, she was absolutely everywhere tonight and I loved what she was able to contribute to the side with 24 disposals as she was up and down the field. I’ve always loved her but this was a legacy game for her.

Someone that I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this season or not, but Libby Birch also had an amazing game tonight, taking 10 marks down back and being an absolute powerhouse in our defence.

I’d also be amiss if I didn’t mention Bella Eddey tonight as I thought she played her role perfectly and did what she needed to do around the ground. Her goal was absolutely sensational!

I would have definitely liked to have seen more goals than we got, but we were lucky we held Hawthorn goalless the entire game. Let’s hope the girls enjoy the break as we play again in two weeks time. Go Roos!

And there we have the end of the AFLW home and away season for 2025 with us breaking the record with 24 wins in a row. This week we took down Hawthorn 10.7.67 - 2.6.18. As Josh on the recently said, the girls are so good it’s hard to come up with new things to say.

That being said, we’ll give it a go. Jasmine Garner’s 100th game and of course she delivered with 24 disposals and leading like the skipper she is. Ash Riddell getting 28 disposals of her own as well, what an impressive player she continues to be for us.

Tahlia Randall kicked four goals last night, an absolutely incredible game from her. Can’t wait to see what she does in finals. I’d also like to touch on Bella Eddey. I feel like she doesn’t get the attention she deserves but she definitely deserves it last night after that goal and her overall performance. All the girls did such a good job last night, I can’t fault anyone.

Thank you for following me throughout this season, I’ll continue with updates as we move into finals. Go Roos!

And just like that, with 23 consecutive wins, we are the minor premiers. We take down Saint Kilra in Hobart 9.13.67 - 3.3.21.

Got to see my first W game of the year and it was so impressive to see the girls in action in person. If you think Jazzy Garner and Ash Riddell are insane on the tv, just wait until you see their intensity right in front of you. Those girls racked up 42 and 30 disposals respectively and made everything look so easy.

I was really happy to see Emma King have a great game today with 3 goals to her name alongside Blaithin Bogue with 2. I really liked what our forward line did today.

I was super impressed with Tess Craven, I feel like she’s a player that is I’ll just get better as she gets older. I loved what she was able to do today and how dominate she was in the game.

By being at the game today I finally got to see how our defence worked properly, I loved seeing what Jasmine Ferguson was doing down there today, amazing stuff.

Also a special mention to Elle Slocombe who made her debut today and had a pretty solid game. Definitely excited to see her improve in her career too.

Just a slight injury scare with Vicki Wall, it seems at the moment that she has a minor injury to her ankle. Fingers crossed she doesn’t miss any football because of it.

So another week, another North AFLW win, we take on the Hawks in the final game of the home and away season on Friday. Go Roos!

Can you believe it!? What a win over the Crows as we take them down 10.11.71 - 5.1.31. If we don’t win the flag I will covert to an Essendon fan page for a week, and you can hold me to that.

The usual suspects had a day out today with Jasmine Garner getting 41 touches and a goal, so close to that 100 goals it’s incredible. Ash Riddell was once again perfect in her role with 39 and a goal, once again proving how insane she is. I was really happy to see Emma Kearney play a really good game, I feel like she’s been quieter than normal this year. Good to see everyone being fantastic today.

The forwards once again going crazy, with so so many individual goal kickers it’s unbelievable what we can do. Would be amiss not to mention Tahlia Randall and Tess Craven who have reached 100 games and 50 games respectively and become key parts of our side.

Honestly the only weak spot today is that we missed a few shots we shouldn’t have in the second quarter, and that we let the Crows score a bit more towards the end. All in all, an incredible performance against a team we’ll be competing against in finals.

Let’s get a 23rd win in a row as we take on the Saints in Hobart next Sunday. Go Roos!

Trade period has just finished and it was an eventful week or so for some clubs. Unfortunately, North was not one of them, but here’s what we’ve got.

Charlie Spargo has been traded to North by Melbourne and is expected to feature in our best 23 next season.

We have traded out Finnbar Maley and pick 64 in exchange for pick 57 and a 2026 fourth round selection to Adelaide. The club has confirmed that we were not going to offer him a contract and so were happy to let him go to the Crows. I’m sad to see him go, but I also understand and personally could not see him in our team long term.

We missed out on players like Jai Serong and Connor Budarick, and ultimately decided not to pursue Leek Aleer due to medical concerns.

Our biggest story of the trade period, Jy Simpkin wishing to leave did not occur. There were discussions with Collingwood but no deal was able to be reached. As a fan of Jy I hope this makes him fight for his spot back and continue to improve with us, but I highly doubt he will be our captain next year.

I’ll keep you guys up to date with all our other off-season updates as we move closer to the draft and the pre-season. Let me know your thoughts on North’s trade period, or the trade period in general down below. Go Roos!
