What an incredible weekend for Team Unity at the Queensland State Championships.
Saturday was all about the adults, and what a performance they put on. We walked away with 3 State Champions, 4 silver medals and 5 bronze medals, but the medals only tell part of the story.
We got to watch our head coach, Ricky, do things on the mats weโve never even seen him do before. Pat got his first win after only a couple months of training . Lee fought tooth and nail, leaving absolutely everything out there. Brooke put on an incredible performance to become a double State Champion, taking out both Gi and No-Gi. I managed to bring home the Gi State Championship, but Brooke definitely showed me up this weekend!
More importantly, our adult team led by example. They competed with courage, confidence, humility and outstanding sportsmanship, setting the standard for everyone watching.
Sunday belonged to the kids, and they followed that example perfectly.
Our youngest competitors Lincoln, Freya, Raya and Athena showed unbelievable bravery, pushing through fear, nerves and huge emotions just to step onto the mats. That kind of courage is something to be proud of.
Mina, Yani, Conan, Elijah, Miya and Bonni all stepped up to tougher challenges and met them head-on with grit, determination and heart. Jojo also stepped up into the juvenile white belt division and fought his way to becoming a State Champion.
To every single competitor, thank you.
Weโre proud of how you fought, how you pushed yourselves outside your comfort zones, how you supported each other and, most importantly, how you represented Unity. Medals fade, but the character you showed this weekend is what truly matters.
Congratulations, Team Unity. We couldnโt be prouder. ๐๐ฅ
