When parents first bring their child to martial arts, they might be looking for fitness, self-defence or simply a new activity.

From tears on the edge of the mats to earning her BLACK BELT. 🥋🖤

This is pretty special. Miss Emaan was our very first Tiger to enrol at our North Lakes facility back in February 2018, alongside her two big sisters and then later on, her Mama too!

For many weeks there were lots of tears and nerves, and not wanting to step onto the mats, but her Mama stood strong in what she knew her girl needed, and little by little, Emaan found her confidence.

Yesterday, almost nine years later, that once nervous little Tiger walked onto these same mats like an absolute girl boss and earned her Black Belt. Nine years of showing up, growing, learning and persevering.

And that, right there, is what the journey of becoming a Black Belt and beyond is all about. It’s not about never struggling. Some days it feels hard. Some days it feels boring. Some days it feels redundant. Some days we’re too busy or too tired, but it’s about building the discipline and determination to keep going and kicking those goals. Some take three years, some walk it at the pace that resonates with their own soul.

Emaan went through the whole Tiger system, graduating into the regular program, from our very first North Lakes Tiger to one of our newest Black Belts.

Confidence doesn’t always look confident. 💛

Sometimes it looks like standing at the edge of the mat for a little longer before joining in.

Sometimes it’s putting your hand up for the first time.

Trying something even though you’re worried you might get it wrong.

Walking into class without Mum or Dad beside you.

Or coming back the next week to try again.

At Legacy Martial Arts, we know confidence isn’t something that appears overnight.

It’s built in the little moments.

One class. One challenge. One “I did it!” at a time. 🥋

And those are the moments we love watching happen.
