SAWKR 2025

This year we had two amazing teams compete in the South Australian Women's Keelboat Regatta.

AUSC Footers finished 3rd in their division after some impressive racing, with Mikaila winning the best novice skipper award! Young Einstein also did amazing, coming 5th.

There were many memorable moments, including Georgia nearly falling off the bow and Megan getting seasick mid race but still managing to push through with a smile.

Thank you for everyone who helped out, we couldn't have done it without you. A big shout out to Rob for trusting us with his boat, Young Einstein.

Congrats to Finlay, one of our committee members for becoming a finalist in the Australian Sailing SA Volunteer of the Year category! Finlay has recently joined our committee, and is a dedicated supporter of the club's activities.

Congratulations to Finlay Bunt on being nominated as one of the finalists for Volunteer of the Year at the 2025 Australian Sailing - SA Awards – Well deserved 👏

Winner to be announced at the SA Sailing Awards Presentation on Friday 19 September. Good luck Finlay.

Welcome to competitors from the Australian University Sailing Club (AUSC).

This year skipper Sophie Davidson brings a new boat into the competition: Young Einstein.

Sophie has competed and skippered J24s in SAWKR for the last three years with an all AUSC crew. In 2023 they came 3rd in Division 2 and in 2024 they came 1st place in Division 2 and won the Most Outstanding Boat award, while also being first across the line in every race. Sophie and crew have also had some success in AWKR during this time on J24s. In 2022 the were awarded the Most Improved award and in 2023 they came 1st place in Division 2.

Also, we want to welcome for the first time a second AUSC crew to enter the competition. Welcome to Mikaela Thomson who will be skippering one of the Elliotts with an all AUSC crew.

We look forward to seeing what Sophie, Mikaela and the AUSC crews achieve .

P.S all the Elliotts are booked, four of which will be raced by interstate crews. More details to come.

Course warning: pace yourselves, hydrate, and have a designated landlubber to steer you home. Steady your sea legs, grab your crew, and get ready for a night of smooth sailing and strong spirits!
