The Granite Bay.

Designed around speed, hold and clean rail surfing. A channel running through the tail between the fins helps control water flow and adds hold and drive when the board is put on rail.

It carries speed through longer turns and responds well when pushed, letting you draw a clean line without washing off speed between sections.

Plenty of paddle and glide, with a more performance-driven feel once you’re on your feet.

Built for long walls, open faces and surfing off the rail.

In the summer of 1914–15, Duke Kahanamoku came to Australia.

Already an Olympic swimming champion, Duke travelled the country giving swimming exhibitions alongside fellow Hawaiian swimmer George Cunha. During the tour, his demonstrations of Hawaiian-style board surfing in Sydney would help change Australian surfing forever.

By January 1915, Duke and Cunha had made their way north to Brisbane their appearance at South Brisbane Dock captured in this original Brisbane Courier advertisement.

More than a century later, a small piece of Australian surfing history brought back to life.

The Legends Panel 🎬

An afternoon of stories from behind the films, memories from years gone by, plenty of laughs and a few coffees along the way.

Pretty special having this group together in store, sharing the stories that don’t always make it onto the screen.

Thanks to everyone who packed the place out, and to the Noosa Film Festival for bringing it all together. One to remember.

In search of empty waves at Double Island Point.

Around 1962, Bill Griffiths and his mates began heading up the North Shore with their surfboards. By the mid-60s, Bill remembered Noosa getting too crowded for them, so they would regularly head north instead.

“We’d go up Friday night and spend the weekend up there, have it all to ourselves.”

They went fishing and surfing, and in winter would light a big fire, rake it out, cover it with sand and sleep on it in their sleeping bags.

For transport, they used an assortment of old cars. Among them was this 1937 Willys, owned between Bill Griffiths, Eddie Nelson and Ray Kingston.

The three went thirds in it. Bill recalled paying around £10 each, “maybe even £5.” They bought it in Brisbane and drove it up at night. It wasn’t registered, but the headlights and even the interior light worked.

They tried putting dual wheels on it to get over the sandhills. One wheel fell off before they got to the barge, and another before they got to the beach.

And if there was surf?

“Sometimes you could ride it for two miles.”

The original Tea Tree

The Tea Tree was made for our world-class point break but it’s far from a one-wave board.

A serious nose rider with a huge platform up front, refined rails and a drawn-in tail for hold, while the double concave into V gives it plenty of drive through turns.

Paddles easy, gets in early and still lets you put it on rail when you want to.

If I ain’t broke don’t fix it…
