Godet Vincent Grey Flash - Goodwood Revival 2023

Godet Vincent Grey Flash - Goodwood Revival 2023 A small group of passionate vintage motorcycle enthusiasts taking a rare bike to the Goodwood Revival https://gofund.me/8b71e9e1

What an opportunity to see one of the world’s most prestigious and extremely rare motorbikes out on the racetrack, at the Goodwood Revival this year in September (2023) - the Godet Vincent Grey Flash. To get to race at Goodwood you need to be invited, and as Australians we are honoured to have been given the opportunity to take the Godet Vincent Grey Flash across to England for this pinnacle of sh

ort circuit classic/historic racing – but we need your help to get there. The event calls for 2 riders (1 amateur and 1 professional) in each race of 25 laps, who change over at the midway point of each of the 2 races. The race has a Le Mans style start and is hosted by the Duke of Richmond. Our team amateur rider is:
• David (Duf) Woolsey - Classic motorcycle racing specialist and twice Australian Classic Road Race Champion. Professional Rider
• Sadly Cam Donald has had to pull out for personal reasons. It was a very tough decision for him and he has been amazing in his support for us. The new professional rider is still to be assigned by Goodwood but we will update you as soon as we are told. The rest of our small team comprises:
• Greg Brillus - Vincent engineering and mechanical specialist, (ex-aircraft engineer).
• Mark Barnes - Engineer and fabricator

The Godet Vincent Grey Flash we are taking, is one of 2 reconstructed by the gifted French Vincent engineer Patrick Godet and has been owned by an Australian from new. The historic motorcycle community has revered these Vincent motorcycles since the early 1950's with only 30 being built for competition. Their rarity, performance and outright track success have, throughout the decades, inspired race meetings, rallies, shows and TV and film documentaries. This bike is the only one of its type in the world currently competing, and we are excited to be invited to be part of The Goodwood Revival 2023. It is a huge cost to get the beautiful Grey Flash and our small team across to Goodwood so we are asking the motorcycling community and supporters to get behind us and help us get there. Sylvie is now back in the country and back with her owner in Sydney.

As you can see, she has come through the accident without too much damage thanks to rider, David Duf Woolsey putting himself between the bike and anything black, hard or vertical!!

Duf’s recovery continues at speed and he is pleased to have just entered the QEMSC Queensland Early Motorcycle Sports Club
Carnell Classic meeting in April, which is held just outside Stanthorpe, QLD. He will be racing his Seeley Matchless G50.

Our journey to Goodwood with the Godet Grey Flash is now over and we would sincerely like to thank the owner for the loan of the bike.

Sylvie’s outstanding, debut performance at Goodwood was due to Greg Brillus’s attention to detail. The fact that she was a circa 1950 replica and performed 2nd fastest across the line at 102.1mph (fastest was 103.4mph and 3rd was 100.6mph) proves that Greg's Vincent tuning skills were fundamentally spot on.

Well done Greg Brillus and thank you.

We also want to thank those of you who helped us to make the trip to Goodwood possible.

From the odd $50 cash donation to those of you around the country who supported the Go fund Me Page.

Thank you to QEMSC Queensland Early Motorcycle Sports Club,
Historic Motor Cycle Racing Register of South Australia, Wynnum Marine and Ongmac Trading for their very generous sponsorship.

Please know what a difference you made.

Have a look at what an amazing job the surgeons did!!
We have been home for 3 weeks now and David Woolsey had some fab news that he is healing well and can put weight on his left leg. He has done so well.
Now for physio so he can get back on two wheels.
He can't thank all of you enough for all the well wishes and messages of support that he has had following his bad luck at the Goodwood Revival.
Meanwhile Sylvie is well on her way home. Her ship has arrived in Singapore and she should be back in Australia towards the end of November.

An update on the amazing David ‘Duf’ Woolsey.
21 days since the accident and Duf has been medically cleared to fly and will leave England tomorrow.
He should be back in his own bed in Australia by the early hours of Wednesday morning.
He is feeling really good and is already planning his trip to Goodwood next year. 🏁🏍️
Good work Duf.

Good morning and an update from Brighton.
Duf is doing well.
He hasn’t had any more surgery as the medical team have put off pelvic surgery until they re-X-ray (is that a word) his pelvis on Sunday to see how he is healing. If he is doing well then they will I let it heal naturally without surgery.
They will CT his collarbone today as they are not sure about how to fix it as it’s a complicated break. He is in great spirits as you can see and is still trying to understand the reality of what actually happened. That’s racing for you 🏍️🏁
Meanwhile Sylvie the beautiful Vincent Grey Flash has been packed away ready for her return journey, by ship, to Australia.
She was lovingly packed away by Greg and Mark (still in their Goodwood outfits and looking fabulous).
As you can see, she has survived the crash with barely a scratch. Duf made a good shock absorber 🤦‍♀️😳

The team are incredibly happy and proud that Sylvie made it to Goodwood and put up a great show. She was one of the most photographed bikes in the paddock.

Thanks to all of you who have been in contact. Your thoughts have been very much appreciated.

Duf had his first operation yesterday and the left femur now has a nice new pin in it. As you can see he is sitting up and smiling and nothing tastes as good as hospital food when you haven’t eaten in 36 hours. 😳
Back to the operating theatre this morning hopefully, to repair his pelvis which is broken in 2 x places and his right collarbone.
The team were sent these fabulous photos from Australia showing Sylvie on the big screen.

Thanks for all your messages of support which are really appreciated.

Now to get Sylvie back to Australia. 🏍️🏁🇦🇺💕

Well an update from Goodwood.
What a fabulous race and a fabulous job that both Duf and Adam did on the oldest engineered bike on the grid.
Until the last corner of the last lap they were looking likely to finish 9th out of 30 starters. An incredible result for 2 riders who had never ridden the circuit before and who both had to meet the challenge of oil on the track.

Sadly, the 1950’s front brakes didn’t quite finish the race and
an internal brake spring broke. This caused the brake to self-servo on, which effectively locked the wheel, causing the bike to stand on its nose.
Duf went over the handlebars at 60 mph (100kph) and the bike landed on him.
He had a CT scan which has revealed a broken right collarbone, (yes the one with the titanium plate in it) a broken left femur and a fractured pelvis and will have surgery later today. (Sunday UK time).
He is in really really good spirit’s and had to be talked into having morphine. He was only on paracetamol up until then. 😳
Those of us that know him well know he’s not one to make a fuss and has a very high pain threshold.
Goodwood have been incredible, the medical staff have been incredible and the hospital staff have been incredible.

He doesn’t have his phone with him yet and he won’t get texts outside of Aus, but do do send him messages on WhatsApp and Meesenger if you can which will keep him busy when he eventually can sit up 🥰 🏍️🏁
The Grey Flash is in good shape with only a few scratches and will start her journey back to Australia on Monday.
Thank you Goodwood. Despite what happened this has been a fabulous journey and I’m pretty sure that given the chance, we will be back again. 🏍️🏁💕

Well you’ve got to be happy with that!!
Neither rider has been on this circuit before today and they have qualified 11th out of 30.
We are all so chuffed and can’t wait to see how tomorrow goes.

It’s hard to keep up with all the action. David Duf Woolsey ride the first 4 laps then Adam had his first ride on the Vincent for 8 laps and then Duf for the last few. A couple of little technical issues (now resolved by Greg of course) and they are ready for the first race tomorrow.

All before 9.30am on Friday morning at the GOODWOOD REVIVAL. We had so much fun getting all dressed up to head over to the circuit.
Getting ready for Fridays practise and qualifying. Neither David Duf Woolsey or Adam have raced at the Goodwood circuit and talked tactics for a long time last night.
