Vale Ernie Bolton. Ernie Bolton played an integral part at Williamstown Baseball Club. Amongst many accomplishments, Ernie was an Inaugural Inductee to Baseball Victoria's Hall of Fame in 2025. A little about Ernie's history at Williamstown.
1974 In a further attempt to win the B Grade flag and be promoted to A Grade, Ern Bolton, ex Footscray, Coburg and Victorian Pitcher, was appointed coach. Ernie did an excellent job of leading by example and Williamstown were awarded the ‘Club Champions of B Grade’ however the Firsts were again defeated in the Grand Final.
Ern Bolton, with 26 votes, won the Hindson Trophy for the best player in B Grade. Ern also won the Thomson Trophy the Most Valuable Player for Williamstown.
1975 Ern Bolton coached again in 1975 and was placed fourth in the Hindson Trophy for best player in B Grade with 20 votes, only two votes behind the winner.
Ern won the Thompson Trophy for the second time.
Jeff Bolton was the Under 15 best clubman
Jeff Bolton later went on to be part of Williamstown’s 1988/89 Division 2 Premiership team.
Ernie’s other son Rodney also played Juniors and seniors at Williamstown.
As part of our Centenary Year celebrations, a Legends game was organised for Friday Night 18th January 2008 and saw a huge crowd enjoy 2 teams of past players slog it out. Ernie Bolton threw the first pitch to start the proceedings. Both Jeff & Rodney were part of the past players teams.
Ernie was a tough & knowledgeable coach and led by example and expected others to follow his high standards.
