They sing of trophies kissed by time,
In colours faded, salt and prime,
With echoes loud from seasons gone,
They cling to dusk and call it done.

From Gosford’s shore the stories flow,
Of glory years they still bestow,
But every chant feels slightly rehearsed
Like reading chapters, not the verse.

For up the coast, the noise is new,
The sky is gold, the bay is blue,
And Jets fans roar in present tense,
Not leaning hard on evidence.

This year the crown came home at last,
Not borrowed dreams or echoes past,
The Jets stood tall, the league was won
A rising roar, a setting sun.

And next week waits a sweeter scene,
A line of yellow, trimmed in green,
A guard of honour, heads held low,
For those they chased but couldn’t slow.

“Remember when…” the Mariners cry,
As moments drift and seasons fly,
While Newcastle stands, alive, unchained,
Not haunted by what once remained.

So let them sing of what they’ve known,

While Jets fans laugh beneath the sun

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THEIR HISTORY THE NEWCASTLE JETS HAVE BEEN CROWNED MINOR PREMIERS. Tipped as one of the favourites to win the wooden spoons at the start of the season the Jets have defied the odds.

What an achievement by all involved.

They’ve done it. They’ve bloody well done it.
