Round 5 of Success Avenue NPL 5.0 produced yet another thrilling weekend of cricket, with plenty of nail-biting matches, contrasted by dominant team performances making their mark in the tournament. As teams begin to settle into the season and the race for a top 5 finish intensifying, players across the league are continuing to raise the bar with match-winning contributions week after week.
The standout performance of the round belonged to Newcastle Titans star Rana Muhammad Qasim, who takes home both the Player of the Week and Super Striker of the Week awards following one of the most destructive innings seen in NPL 5.0 this season. Rana blasted 101 runs from just 35 deliveries, clearing the boundary an astonishing 12 times and striking at close to 300. To cap off a memorable outing, he also chipped in with a wicket, underlining his all-round impact on the match.
Round 5 once again showcased unbelievable batting highlights, with several players producing innings of the highest quality. Kabul Knight Riders’ Navneel Kumar fought hard with a superb unbeaten 103 from 62 balls, while Izaan Mohammed once again delivered a top class performance with a magnificent 110 from just 46 deliveries. Gokul Krishna Jasti contributed nicely with a well made 64, while Amit Salwam and Arif Hussain each brought up impressive half-centuries for their respective teams. Deepak Mehta not only made an impact with the ball but also produced a blistering 51 from just 22 deliveries, and Manpreet Singh added another valuable fifty to round out a week packed with outstanding batting performances.
While the batters produced plenty of fireworks throughout the round, the standout bowling performance belonged to Badshah’s Muhammad Nawaz, who claims the Lightning Bowler of the Week award after a remarkable spell of 7-19 in 4 overs. In a format dominated by aggressive batting, Nawaz tore through the opposition lineup and completely shifted the course of the match. His performance this week was surely one of the most impressive individual performances seen in Success Avenue NPL 5.0 this season.
The Economic Bowler of the Week award belongs to Maitland Super Kings’ Deepak Mehta, who bowled 2 overs, giving up only 1 run and bagging a wicket, highlighting an extraordinary display relentless control. Conceding just a single run across his spell, Deepak played a crucial role in restricting the opposition while also making a valuable contribution with the bat.
There were plenty of other impressive bowling efforts throughout the weekend. Nazim Ahmad claimed figures of 4-18 in his 4 over quota, while Blake Silvester delivered one of the most economical spells of the round with figures of 3 for 6 from his three overs. Afghan Blue Tigers’ opening bowling pair of Rouidullah Wafa and Zameer Masoom Khil set the tone in their side’s dominant 154-run victory, with both bowlers picking up three wickets each. Resham Singh bowled a disciplined spell of 3 for 12 from four overs, and once again Muhammad Tariq proved his worth with a quick and impactful burst to finish with figures of 3-8 to help round out their victory.
Five rounds into Success Avenue NPL 5.0, the competition continues to deliver outstanding cricket and unforgettable performances. Whether it has been batters taking the attack to opposition bowlers or bowlers producing match-defining spells, the quality on display each week continues to impress. With teams now focused on building momentum through to the end of the first stage, round 6 promises another exciting opportunity for the players and teams to make their mark in this tournament.
