Congrats to the connections of Lika Remi, who brought up her third career win at Tuncurry Forster Jockey Club on Saturday.

The mare has become a Tuncurry specialists with all three wins coming on the track, & with Serg Lisnyy in the saddle 👏👏

The mare now headed for a well earned spell.

A fantastic result for our home bred Flying Artie gelding My Wish, winning the G1 Champions Mile in Hong Kong on Sunday.

We never imagined at the start of this journey, he would be taking out such a prestigious race. Congrats to Mark Newnham Racing & Hugh Bowman 👇

HE was born in a paddock at Duckenfield on Newcastle’s outskirts in the wee hours of a Friday morning in early October 2020.

And though of course no one knew it at the time, that foaling of the little c**t (later gelded) set the tone for a trio of Newcastle racing aficionados to breed a horse from a “third time lucky” mare who has now become a Hong Kong champion.

Newcastle Racecourse trainer Steve Hodge & close friends Brad & Fran Marshall are the very proud breeders of My Wish, who last night became a Group 1 winner in the Champions Mile at Sha Tin.

With the backing of an all-Australian connection of trainer Mark Newnham & jockey Hugh Bowman, My Wish thundered home to take his HK earnings already to around a staggering A$8.7 million.

Not had for a horse who is the first foal of his dam, the Reset mare Set The Tone (who won only one race in the country), and trounced five rivals in a 800m barrier for two and three-year-old maiden horses at Newcastle’s Beaumont (inside) track on September 29, 2023 before being sold overseas. Thanks again to Provincial Racing - NSW on their write up on Saturday's Kempsey winner Incantress 👇

She returned from a spell in good form & it was a great ride by Ben Looker.

TRAINING racehorses is more of a hobby these days for Steve Hodge Racing.

The experienced Newcastle Racecourse horseman has a full-time job on his hands managing Newcastle Jockey Club’s equine swimming pool at Broadmeadow racecourse.

As a result, he has only four horses in work & relishes the chance to attend country race meetings whenever possible.

It was possible yesterday – & Hodge got the desired result with New Zealand-bred mare Incantress at the Kempsey non-TAB meeting.

Ridden by Ben Looker, Incantress ($3 favorite) trounced her rivals in the 1250m Kempsey Macleay RSL Diggers Cup, a Benchmark 50 Handicap. Read more 👇 📸 Bradley_Photos https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/hodge-in-the-swim-at-kempsey

STEVE Hodge was “in the swim” at Tuncurry Forster Jockey Club on Saturday.

When you have only four horses in work, taking half your team to a race meeting isn’t always common place.

Thus the long-serving Newcastle Racecourse trainer was entitled to be pretty pleased with himself when not only did he have two runners at the TAB meeting – but won with both.

Hodge, who manages Newcastle Jockey Club’s equine pool at Broadmeadow, scored with Lika Remi ($7.50) & The Final Say ($17); the pair ridden by Serg Lisnyy.

Lika Remi, a daughter of Group 1 Stradbroke winner Under The Louvre, broke through in the Maiden Plate (1000m), and The Final Say did the same, romping home by nearly five lengths in the 1400m Maiden. Read more 👇

It was a big day for the stable at Tuncurry Forster Jockey Club yesterday, with a race to race double 🏇

Lika Remi broke her maiden status at start seven over the 1000m, & The Final Say claimed her first win in the 1400m Maiden.

Both horses well ridden by Serg Lisnyy. Congrats to the winning owners.

LIGHTNING can strike twice!

Newcastle Racecourse trainer Steve Hodge Racing has sold two unraced young horses to Kong Kong in the last two years – & both have won.

Supreme Sea made a winning debut for expat Sydney trainer Mark Newnham, currently leading the Hong Kong premiership, on Sha Tin’s all-weather track ON.

The three-year-old gelding’s first-up triumph shed further light on the underrated stallion Sebring Sun, who stands at Craig Ruttley’s Glenthorne Park just south of Taree at a bargain $6600.

The sale of Supreme Sea, whose name was changed in Hong Kong from Toughenup Sun, arose from the previous sale of another unraced young horse Lika Ryder (now racing as My Wish and one of Hong Kong’s best horses) he bred in partnership with close friends Brad & Fran Marshall, & sold to Newnham after easily winning an 800m trial on Newcastle Racecourse’s Beaumont track in September 2023. Congrats again to Craig Rutley at Glenthorne Park. A great story from Provincial Racing - NSW.

Newcastle Racecourse trainer Steve Hodge Racing was in the right place at the right time.

And Craig Ruttley is pretty happy he was.

Ruttley bred an unraced two-year-old Toughenup Sun, and thanks to Hodge’s groundwork, the youngster has been sold to Hong Kong and will do his future racing there.

Importantly, the sale shed further light on the gelding’s sire Sebring Sun, a son of Golden Slipper winner Sebring and well-performed racehorse in his own right. Read more 👇 Glenthorne Park https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/hong-kong-sale-highlights-stallion-s-quality

NOT for a moment did Steve Hodge Racing think he would get a horse from Hong Kong in return after selling one there. a city winner at that!

He did – and the horse in question Bourbon Flyer won for his new trainer at home on Thursday at only his third start for him.

Ridden by Scone Race Club apprentice Cobi Vitler (who beat his stablemate and fellow apprentice Braith Nock on the runner-up), $21 chance Bourbon Flyer surged down the centre of the track from last to take the Class 1 Handicap (900m). 📸Bradley_Photos Racecourse

A great win by Kikikapow at Newcastle Racecourse today. Congrats to the connections & jockey Mollie Fitzgerald.
