Newbridge Recreation Reserve

Newbridge Recreation Reserve Newbridge Recreation Reserve, situated by the Loddon River, is home to tennis, football & netball. (NRRCoM is a not-for-profit entity.)

The Newbridge Recreation Reserve is on Crown Land and is managed by volunteers, the Newbridge Recreation Reserve Committee of Management Inc. Our playground is now protected from sun and rain. Erected in 2020 by NRRCoM members and family members. A double electric BBQ and picnic tables are located near the playground and are available to community, campers and visitors. The BBQ and interactive pic

nic table were installed in late 2019. Our public facility includes: toilets, showers, baby change table and disability toilets and shower. Public facilities are cleaned daily ( 2x a day during peek periods). Steps were built up the embankment to the public facilities in September 2020. Our next project is to have solar lights beside the steps. Our Multi Purpose room is supported by a class 2 kitchen for self catering with a capacity for 200 guests (125 during COVID restrictions) and is available for hire. Food cooking fire pits are dotted along the Loddon River. More are planned to be built over the coming years. We hope you enjoy your stay in Newbridge, which is a great place to live, work and visit. Please observe Covid Safety guidelines and maintain social distances.

Since 2011 a lot has happened around the Riverside Park. Our old facility was destroyed in a 100 year flood and a new one built.

Over 10 years our facility has grown. The NRRCoM has been planning on a Volunteer Recognition Ceremony since 2021 but COVID got in the way. Then in 2022 the flood that wasn't suppose to happen for another 100 years happened...

To acknowledge and celebrate the volunteers who assisted with the rebuild of the facilities after the floods of 2011, a recognition ceremony will be held, and a commemorative plaque unveiled.
A light afternoon tea will be provided afterwards.

The Loddon River below Laanecoorie Weir hasn’t flooded the Newbridge Recreation Reserve. Over the weekend we closed the park as a safety precaution. The reserve is open for campers. Loddon Herald Facebook has road closure information.

Newbridge General Store as well as the Newbridge Hotel are accepting fees. Please support these businesses which are very supportive of the Newbridge Rec Reserve. Rec Reserve Committee volunteers and our caretaker continue to accept fees whilst we are at the reserve for cleaning and maintenance work. As we drive or walk the camping you may see us peering at your car’s windscreen as we check for a camping receipt.
Our email address: [email protected] is checked daily if you have a query.

We are currently negotiating with Loddon Shire for an increase in recycle and rubbish bins to meet our needs. Please separate your recycle from rubbish.

The southern tennis courts are open to the public when the Newbridge Tennis Club isn’t competing.
The tennis and netball courts have been resurfaced and we ask campers not to ride bikes, use skate boards or skates on these courts.

Our tracks have been upgraded and we have reinstated humps to slow cars along the camping areas and around the oval where children are more likely to run or ride bikes.

Thank you to our campers who have left their sites litter free. Also thanks to those who mop the floor after showering. Your efforts assist us to keep our public facilities clean.

Newbridge doesn’t have sewerage or reticulated water. We rely on rain. Please use water wisely and turn off taps. Our water waste goes into our septic system which doesn’t cope with RV cassette waste. The closest dump point is in Bridgewater at the Bridgewater Rec Reserve - access via Bridgewater Maldon Rd.

We have a small number of cooking fire pits along the river and are now in the planning / permission process for putting more around the reserve. Please observe fire restrictions as we come into summer and make sure fires are not left unattended and a bucket of water to extinguish is close by. A double electric bbq is available for use beside Tennis Clubroom near the playground.

Respect your camping neighbour and enjoy your stay.

We are opening

We will be opened from the 24th June. We will continue to be a construction site with ongoing fencing of the tennis courts and rhinotank. We ask visitors to stay away from these areas until fencing contractor has completed their work.
Loddon Shire have issued us with new ‘red’ lidded rubbish bins and ‘yellow’ lidded recycle bins. We ask visitors, campers, spectators to separate their waste/recycling appropriately so we don’t contaminate recycling with waste products. We are waiting on appropriate labeling to assist users to put their refuse in the appropriate bin.
Welcome home Newbridge Football and Netball Club, players and supporters.
Congratulations to the NFNC Stalwarts for your efforts providing canteen from the tennis clubroom and BBQ Shelter area. It was a massive job relocating catering equipment.
Congratulations Chris Dixon on your 300th game with Newbridge Football Club. Well done football and netball teams on your wins and draw on Saturday. It was great to see a good crowd at the game.
This Saturday is the Flood Recovery Game between Serpentine and Newbridge. This event is sponsored by the Loddon Shire.
Skyline Building contractors under the supervision of Rob Keir Refurbishing Project Manager have worked around the clock to get the facility ready for use. Workers are currently in the canteen/kitchen re-establishing it to a Class 2 facility.
There will be a working bee at the reserve on Friday 23rd June from 11am for those able to assist.
Thank you to our many camping friends for your patience.
Our Newbridge Hotel owners Michelle and Matt, and our new General Store lessees Casey and Nick look forward to your visits.

The Newbridge Recreation Reserve will remain closed for the King’s Birthday weekend and possibly until the end of June for campers.

The tennis court area is still hazardous with pipes sticking up. A contractor has been engaged but there are some engineering issues that are currently being worked through so may delay camping opening.

NFNC are training on Thursday nights but players have limited access to the reserve while it is a construction site.

Lots of progress has been made in and around the pavilion and tennis clubroom to restore public and sporting group facilities.

Keily Excavations and Roger Terrill (NRRCoM) have been busy cleaning up washed out areas, pathways, tracks, detritus and fallen trees.

The playground has had all contaminated soil removed and softfall laid. Thanks Roger for organising & supervising this. Loddon Shire have organised a playground specialist to do a playground check.

ASQ have delivered tonnes of road base to fix tracks. Thanks ASQ for supplying a grader to spread the road base.

Colleen (NRRCoM) has been caring for the oval which has had to be killed off, resown and tenderly nurtured. We now have the best oval in the league. Graeme (NRRCoM) has been attending to areas around the reserve. We still have some spraying and whipper snipping to do to remove w**ds brought in from the flood but this will happen before game day.

Andrew Friswell (NFNC President) and NFNC players and supporters, organised a working bee to fix the oval fence, laid the turf centre and cleaned up netball courts ready for training. Andrew has been our liaison between the Project Management Company (Skyline) and the Flood Committee. Some supply issues have resulted in project completion delays. Thanks Andrew.

Flood Committee members each have roles to fulfill. Grant applications take time. Organising quotes relies on the good nature of businesses. We have been successful so now we will begin to purchase supplies and content not covered by insurance but required to have our facility operational.

To the Newbridge Football and Netball teams, this year has been a challenge with lots of uncertainty and lack of amenities. Hang in there. Just a few more weeks.

Thanks everyone for your patience.

Tiles removed, floor and walls sanded. Some new tile deliveries received.
Well done demolition team!

Working bee last week focused on the oval boundary fence lifted by the flood water and cleaning up around the netball courts as well as returning a coaches box to its previous position.

Volunteers continue to mow and spray around the reserve to stop w**d infestation. Oval has had aggregate from car park removed and top soil added. It has been aerated, sprayed, reseeded and fertilized to ensure a quality playing field.

We can’t do anything that insurance company is responsible for but we are chipping away at smaller projects.

One track and major car park has been repaired and many washed out areas are being filled. Still a lot of work to do but that will require both light and heavy machinery and contractor availability.

Meeting with DEECA, Loddon Shire and Flood Committee will see what else we can do over the next few months.

Great progress considering hiccup with tiles.

STILL CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The Newbridge Recreation Reserve will continue to be closed over the April School Holidays including the Easter Long weekend.

The Newbridge Recreation Reserve Committee of Management Inc (NRRCoM Inc) is a volunteer committee and we manage the Newbridge Recreation Reserve from Twiggs Lane to the Loddon River foreshore. There is no access to Crown Land here.

The reserve is now a construction site with heavy vehicles travelling along our damaged tracks. Trades people are currently working on the pumping station for irrigation, power supply to power irrigation, tools etc and cleaning up detritus around the reserve especially camping area.

Delay with cleaning up came about because there were only a few local contractors and the Loddon River flood had them working over time. A local resident slashed the reserve for the cost of fuel so we weren’t a fire hazard to the community.

We have been slowly clearing rubbish from around the reserve. Committee members have been engaged in works or have been organising contractors to do road, w**d management, oval restoration work.

When DEECA open grant applications we will be able to organise more contractors to do the bigger projects.

Skyline have been engaged by insurance to repair all fixed facilities and fixtures and they have regular contact with our Flood Committee rep Andrew Friswell. The reserve and clubs will have to replace all contents.

The Rhinotank’s damaged fence has been removed but the damaged metal is in a camping area waiting for collection. A new Rhinotank has been ordered and will hopefully be installed sometime in May.

The tennis court fence still has some detritus. A major concern is a post which over hangs the track. Bent and broken fence litter the court. We are waiting to hear when this will be cleared.

The playground had to have all the softfall and contaminetad dirt removed. The play equipment will also be checked soon. This facility is also still under repair.

The electrician was fixing the BBQ so when we have full power to the reserve this will ve operational.

I will try to take more photos and do another update mid April.

Hoping you can find a nice camping site over Easter.

Our apologies for not being opened for you but OH&S and DEECA determine what we have to do to ensure as safe a place as possible. We can’t stop limbs from falling but we try to make it a friendly canvas camping experience for the family.

Travel safely and live life respectfully and well.

cheers
