O-H-A Hockey Club

O-H-A Hockey Club OHA Hockey Club is a fun, family based club that competes in all levels of junior and senior men's and women's hockey competitions in Hobart, Tasmania.

OHA Hockey Club is a family based club, quick to welcome new players and their families. The Club fields teams in all grades in both the men’s and women’s competitions and all boys’ and girls’ junior competitions. Run by volunteers, the Club promotes regular family interaction, community participation and supports young people to develop confidence in their abilities; we actively encourage a fit a

nd active lifestyle and positive attitudes to promote community spirit and fellowship. Giving back to the community is important to the OHA Hockey Club; each year the Club raises funds for and/or awareness of:

ovarian cancer through a ‘Not Just Bras’ ladies day (June);
men’s cancer through ‘Call to Arms’ (July);
brain injury through ‘Bang on a Beanie’ (August);
mental health through ‘Beyond Blue’ (ongoing); and
Red Cross through ‘Club Red’ (ongoing). OHA Hockey Club values are fundamental to the way in which all members perform on and off the playing field; we respect our people and their commitment to:

junior development
personal development
sponsor support
developing self-esteem and confidence through achievement and
success
providing positive role models and mentors
club spirit, service and loyalty
family orientation and friendship
inclusiveness

The social side of the OHA Hockey Club is certainly a part of the Club many people enjoy. Having the chance to unwind, celebrate or commiserate together as a club allows the teams of OHA to grow stronger.

The OHA Hockey Club are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Life Member John Harris.

John joined OHA in 1971. After progressing through junior grades, John debuted in 1st Grade in 1975, earning Best Under 21 Player in his first season. He went on to play 15 years in the top side, highlighted by a 1977 premiership. Between 1982 and 1990, he won eight OHA 1st Grade Best and Fairest awards and the Association Best and Fairest in 1986. John also served OHA as 1st Grade coach (1984–87), junior coach for a decade, and committee member, including multiple terms as Treasurer. He later played in 2nd Grade, winning two premierships and additional awards. In recognition of his service and contribution, he received the OHA Clubman Trophy in 1982.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Helen, Sophie, Emma and Annabel and their extended family.

Good luck to our U16 Boys and our U18 Men and Women in their Monday night clashes.

Maddison Brooks of Howrah is committed to growing women’s hockey. Maddi served as the captain of the Jillaroos, Australia’s U21 Women’s Hockey team last year. In 2025, she led the team to a victorious campaign at the Four Nations tournament in Berlin and captained them at the Junior World Cup in Chile, where they finished 7th. Maddi also contributes to the Tasmanian sporting community, coaching at the Tigers Hockey Academy and supporting Cricket Tasmania’s game-day activations and school-based programs. Her leadership on and off the pitch has earned her recognition as one of Australia’s top young players. Maddi actively engages with the community to grow the sport.
