Derwent Hockey Club

Derwent Hockey Club Home of the Derwent Hockey Club - Results, Events and News The Derwent Hockey Club is the oldest continuously operating hockey club in Tasmania.

The club was originally two separate clubs: the Derwent Hockey Club; and the Derwent Women's Hockey Club. The two clubs merged and become one identity in 1986. The Men's side of the club began in the 1930s, and has remained in the Southern Tasmanian competition ever since.

🏑 JUNIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT | INSPIRE • CONNECT • GROW 🏑

What a fantastic way to celebrate our 2026 junior season! 💙🧡

On Thursday night, our junior players, families, coaches and supporters came together to celebrate another season of hockey, growth, friendship and everything that makes Derwent Hockey Club so special.

Throughout the season, our players have shown what it means to Inspire, Connect and Grow with Us — developing their skills, supporting their teammates, embracing challenges and, most importantly, enjoying being part of our Club.

A special congratulations to our award recipients:

🌟 INSPIRE – Claudia Windsor
Claudia leads by example as Premier League Women’s captain, Under 18 player and a regular contributor to our Under 16s. Her resilience, sportsmanship, commitment and willingness to support players of all ages make her an outstanding role model for our junior girls.

🤝 CONNECT – Lucinda “Lulu” Washington
Lulu embodies what it means to connect with others. As a Premier League player, Under 18 captain and Under 12 co-coach, she creates an environment where young players feel supported, encouraged and safe. She is a wonderful ambassador for our Club.

🌱 GROW WITH US – Avery Rathjen
Avery showed incredible dedication as our only Under 14 boys player. He turned up every week, gave 100%, embraced training with different groups and continued to improve throughout the season. He represents the future of Derwent.

🌱 GROW WITH US – Fred Ansell
Fred has embraced every opportunity to grow — playing Under 16, Under 18, 1st Grade and Premier League, while also captaining 1st Grade and coaching our Under 12 boys. His commitment to developing himself and creating connections for the next generation is exceptional.

👏 Congratulations to Claudia, Lulu, Avery and Fred!

And to every one of our junior players — you should be incredibly proud of what you have achieved this season.

🏑🧡 **JUNIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT 2026** 🧡🏑

On Thursday 3 September, our Club came together for our Junior Presentation Night, with players and parents gathering to celebrate what has been a fantastic 2026 season. 🎉

It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the season, recognise the achievements and growth of our junior players, and most importantly, celebrate the friendships, teamwork and enjoyment that make our Club so special.

A huge thank you to all of our junior players for their commitment, enthusiasm and effort throughout the season. We have loved watching you learn, develop and grow both on and off the field. 🧡

We also want to extend our sincere thanks to our incredible coaches, team managers and parents. Your time, dedication, encouragement and support throughout the season are what make junior hockey possible. From training and game day to everything that happens behind the scenes — we appreciate every minute you give to our players and our Club. 👏

Thank you for helping make 2026 such a memorable season. We are incredibly proud of our junior players and excited to see what the future holds for them! 🏑🧡

And that’s a wrap! 🏑🌟

This week we celebrate the final recipients of the Strikers Spirit Award for the 2026 season.

Throughout the season, we’ve loved recognising players who have shown that being a Derwent Striker is about so much more than what happens on the scoreboard. These awards have celebrated positivity, teamwork, encouragement, resilience, sportsmanship and a willingness to learn and grow.

Congratulations to our final Strikers Spirit Award recipients.

🦸‍♂️🏑 **SUPERHEROES, SPORTS STARS & HOCKEY!** ⭐🏑

Thursday’s training was a little different as our A-Pool Men and Under 12 Boys traded their usual hockey gear for some seriously impressive superhero and sports star outfits! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️⚽🏀🏏

There were plenty of laughs, some great costumes and, of course, plenty of hockey! It was fantastic to see everyone getting into the spirit and enjoying a fun training session together.

A huge thank you to everyone who dressed up and helped make Thursday night such a memorable one! 🙌

Hockey, superheroes and plenty of fun — what more could you ask for? 🧡💙🤍

And just like that, we’ve reached the final week of the roster! 🏑

It’s been fantastic to see our junior players recognised throughout the season for the things that make Derwent Strikers special — their encouragement of teammates, positive attitudes, sportsmanship, resilience, willingness to learn and, most importantly, the way they support one another.

Congratulations to this week’s Strikers Spirit Award recipients.

A huge thank you to Frosty Dog for supporting the Strikers Spirit Award throughout the season. We’ve loved celebrating the players who demonstrate our Inspire, Connect and Grow values both on and off the field. 💙🧡
