RAMS TAKE A CHRISTMAS WIN

Saturday saw the Rams take on South Wallsend in the final match of the year. Turning up to a burnt out change room and a bottle of broken hot sauce, the game was looking to be a spicy one.

The Rams lost the toss and went in to bowl, with South Wallsend putting on the pressure early on. After some tightening up, Wheels took a 2 wicket maiden with Mack and Jez taking great catches - this had South Wallsend going into drinks at 2/66. The Rams were unlucky a few times with about 10 inside edges (not even joking) missing the stumps, and after a while, South looked comfortable in their scoring. Matt Vandenberg wasn’t having any heads hanging low, and did his best to tell the boys to keep their heads up and to start talking (even to the blokes that were talking), and maybe this did actually work because up stepped Callo and Jordy to slow things down. Jimmy was also able to take a solid wicket on the last ball of the innings, with South Wallsend setting the Rams a target of 151 to win.

With the bat, it was a semi-slow start, with the 2 Josh’s opening to bat. Josh McTavish copped an unlucky stumping, but Corrigan looked to keep the Rams steady as he played some beautiful shots (they were all the same shot technically) to get things going. Stand in skipper Daniel Baker was looking goods, before a controversial call of out from one of our own saw him out from an “edge” to the keeper. However, cometh the hour, cometh the man, red hot off his denied hat trick due to forfeit last week; up stepped Jordan Riley. With the Rams at the same score of 66 at drinks, Jordy stepped up and the boys were off. Vandy did his best to throw a spanner in the works getting out to a missed reserve sweep on his stumps, but this allowed for the Greek Freak, Jimmy, to step up as him and Jordy combined with some beautiful shots to bring us right back into contention. Jordy was able to get a half century, with Jimmy improving his average even further with another not out, and the winning runs under his belt in the 5th last ball of the game.

A good way to step into Chrissy - our next fixture will be Rams vs Schooners at the Duke for our annual Christmas do. Go Rams 🐏

Saturday saw the Rams return to winning ways at home against Ulinga. The day started off with drama as Ulinga didn’t join the Rams by the club house, and the start was delayed while Josh Corrigan had to walk to MacBook across the field and set up.

With the ball, the Rams started out very strong, with Jordan Riley taking a wicket in the second over, with a catch from Wheeler, who later went on to take 2 catches putting him a net 0 after 2 dropped last week. By the end of the 5th over, the tone was set as the Rams held Ulinga to 1-2. The wickets continued to fall, and the runs stayed down, with some class catches from Jonny, Jimmy and Skip as the mid week fielding session that we had paid dividends. Don, Jimmy, and Jordy all took 3 wickets each, with Don standing alone at the top of the competition wickets leaderboard.

With the bat, the Rams were too good, with Brian proving that he might actually be a batter with another solid knock. The opposition tried to slow the game down with a storm looming above, but the job was done in the 14th over leaving the Rams to head to the Duke early. Vandy, with his expertise in the media has also recorded good clips of the game and some interviews with the team, so keep an eye out for the pilot of Rams TV.

Idk where we’re playing this week because the draw isn’t out.

GRAND FINAL REMATCH!

Tomorrow sees the Rams take on J.E. Memorial in the grand final rematch from last season. If history repeats itself, it should be a great game. The boys are very excited with us having our first selection problem for the year with excessive numbers.

If you’re free, see you there!

A cool cloudy day saw the Rams take out a convincing win against Windale. Winning the toss and electing to bat, Baker and skip went out to open. Surprise surprise, Dan Baker went ham with the bat putting up a total of 120, with skip also scoring a 50 to help the two combine for 150 runs overall which is the Rams highest ever partnership. Overs into their innings, specialist fielder and Rams legend Mack McKean also returned from holidays boosting the mood in the process. After the wicket of skip fell, new signing Josh McTavish went out to bat, and was bowled out for a golden duck on his Rams debut. But trust that this ball was unplayable as it swung in and took out his off stump - bigger and better things to come. With some small individual knocks, the Rams finished up with a total of 211 with 5 wickets remaining as we went in to defend our score.

Fresh off the plane from Germany, Jorda. Riley started the Rams off with 2 wickets as he removed the stumps from 2 of Windale’s batsmen with class. Two Windale batters then put up a solid partnership of 70 as they settled in with a dropped catch from one of the boys in between (no names being named here), but up stepped Wheeler, who took the bails off of one of the danger men who was sitting on 51 off 35 balls. It was smooth sailing from there as the best cricket player of all time, Don Furber, took the wicket of their other danger man, and the tail began to wag. Don and Wheeler ended up taking 4 wickets each, including a smart stumping and 2 catches from skip in the process.

Next week sees the Rams take on JE Memorial in last season’s grand final rematch - it should be a cracker!

CAN YOU SMELL WHAT THE RAMS ARE COOKING?

Tomorrow the Rams look to maintain their perfect start to the season against the Windale Warriors at Aitchison Reserve.

Inspired by the class we’ve shown, ex-grade cricketer, Josh McTavish, signed on the dotted line earlier this week as he bolsters the Rams squad for this weekend. Josh will don the 420 kit that was supposed to be a spare for the season.

Hopefully the trend of new signings doing bits for the Rams continues this week and we take another W.

A lovely day for cricket saw the Rams take on the other competition animals in the Hamo Staysh Kamels. Skip lost the toss (standard), and the Kamels sent the Rams into the field.

New signing Ned proved why he was offered a contract, sharing the new ball alongside star man Brian. The pair tore through the top order, with captain fantastic Ollie taking an absolute screamer behind the sticks diving to his right from a thick edge.

Fan favourite Don then cleaned up the middle and lower order, taking a 5fer and rolling the Kamels for 51.
This total gave the Rams the opportunity to give some other lads a chance with the blade, so once opener Dan spooned a leading edge straight to cover, they had their chance… and they all failed miserably with four straight ducks leaving other opener Ollie and Brian to steer the Rams home, finishing on 23 and 9 not out respectively.

Next up: Windale Warriors away.

ROUND 1

Yesterday saw the Rams take out a convincing win on their B Grade debut against Elliotts Lambton. 2 years ago, the Rams played their first ever game against Elliotts, and we were absolutely hided. While there have been some clientele changes on both sides, winning a game like this against a good team is a sign of growth for the Rams.

With 9.5 players for the game, the Rams fielded first, with Elliotts putting on a late charge post drinks with some solid knocks from two players. Jonny was able to slow them down with 3 wickets in one over, and Vandy was called a f****** by multiple players which shows that his constant yapping clearly had an impact.

With the bat, Dan Baker and captain Ollie Ball both put up solid knocks, with the Rams cruising home in 23 overs to take the W.

Next week the Rams take on the Hamo at home.

Time to relive the game. Saturday saw the Rams take on J.E in the Grand Final. Heading out to bat first, J.E showed why they pushed us the whole season, applying the pressure to put us in some tricky spots. At one stage being 9/91, brave knocks from Vandy and Callo saw the Rams push the score higher and higher, finishing at a respectable 127.

When the Rams went out to bowl, the pressure was on immediately with Brian taking 2 wickets in the first 2 balls. J.E pushed at moments, but the Rams were magic in the field and with the ball, being led ultimately by Brian’s 5 wicket ball and great wickets from Jordan and Don.

When we started the Rams, it was almost like a bit of a joke to us - we were in it for some fun. For a full season in C Grade, we struggled to field 11 most weeks, and when we did play, we got flogged - and of course with this came a loss in motivation. We couldn’t even field a team in the lower half of the table finals.

This season, we recruited, but we also gelled as a team much more. We made our kits, formed sponsorships and a better culture around training and the team in general, and while it’s only D Grade, this season made us all fall in love with cricket properly again, and beating a team like J.E in the final in the way that we did was the ultimate way to cap it off and make it all feel worth it. Playing for a club, no matter how small it is, that we started, and winning the competition in our second season is also extra special.

Next season, we go again, but no matter whether we finish top, middle, or bottom, the lads back each other, and we will fight for the W every week as a redemption for Season 1.

We would like to thank and .apparel for their sponsorships and support this year, through their support we were able to give our teams an identity. We look forward to future seasons of working together.

While the socials we go quiet for a while, we look forward to our end of season at the Duke, and to presentation night.
