Members,

Our scheduled competition outing for September will proceed this weekend. There is some residual swell around from earlier in the week, but the winds and sea are dropping off as we speak! Saturday looks to be the pick for the weekend with sea < 1m and a light Westerly to start the day turning NE in the afternoon.

Sunday might be a little more challenging for those fishing Deep Sea as the Southerly is back around 10Knts from 7am.

See the screenshots from the weather applications below.

Lines down from 1800 tonight and the weigh-in and BBQ is 1300 on Sunday at Little Beach boat ramp.

I am expecting big things from Big Zane after he visited the Hot Tackle sale at McDonald Jones Stadium last month! Maybe this month he might catch as many fish as his dad!

New members welcome.

Hope to see you on the water or at the monthly BBQ on Sunday, until then, tight lines and safe fishing.

Members and followers,

I did post a few photos of our August competition but didn't follow up with any results.

Heaviest Bag: Jeremy Norgard, 6.7Kg.
Heaviest Fish: Peter Mills, 1.2Kg Bream)

We did see a few snapper presented up to 1Kg and good feed of Bream with the biggest tipping the scales at 1.2Kg and 42cm (biggest for the year). Margaret also caught another Pigfish in the deep water.

A reminder our next competition weekend is this weekend, Friday 11th - Sunday 13th September. New members welcome.

We are only 2 months out from the November Interclub tournament against RAAF, Riverstone and Newcastle Bluewater clubs (Friday 13th - Sunday 15th November 2026).

Hope to see you on Sunday for the monthly BBQ and weigh-in.

The safety / weather communication will follow later in the week.

Until next time, tight lines and safe fishing!

Members and Followers,

I have posted a few (limited) snaps from our July Competition outing back on the 10-12th July. I figured better late than never.

The LachJess ventured out on Friday night to find plenty of bait (Slimy Mackerel) but no weighers in the shallows, back in about 10pm. Same deal on Saturday morning so they ventured wide to find the current screaming with drifting the only option. You don't drift against the wind too often.

A reasonable feed of reds and Morwong with a couple of small Flathead in deep water. A long day and nothing on dusk as the current was moving us at > 3Km / Hr. Very hard to get a bait down.

It was disappointing to see the Tailor from a month earlier had all but disappeared.

The R-Ageing Rabbit had mechanical trouble again and came back empty handed, booking in another visit with the mechanic.

Paul did well off the rocks with a good feed of Bream and a nice Dusky Flathead about 60cm.

Next competition outing this weekend!

Members and Followers,

Here are a few photos following a recent camping trip at Banksia Green campground (back in June). I went up there with a few lads from Belmont as part of the annual Submarine Beach Fishing Club fishing trip which has been running for over 50y!

We had great weather and if you are interested in throwing a line in off the beach there were a few Bream and Tailor about. I managed half a dozen Tailor with a couple around 50cm and a few of the lads landed Bream up to 40cm.

Banksia is a basic campground (no potable water and pit toilets) approximately 20Km north of Hawks Nest. It is only a short walk over the hill to the beach and campfires are allowed. Worth a visit if you enjoy your beach fishing.

Wests Diggers Nelson Bay FC is looking at a weekend trip outside our normal competition weekend.

Unfortunately It has been a while between posts for the Wests Diggers Nelson Bay FIshing Club with a few social activities keeping me busy over the past month.

I have posted a few photos from our June competition outing weekend. Limited snaps of the fish but we did see a good feed of Tailor (all around 36 - 45cm) from the LachJess and some small reds. Tailor were pretty thick around the islands out the front after dark.

Paul managed some nice Bream in the estuary as they school up in the winter months to spawn. Peter ventured out and was rewarded with a nice Pigfish, good quality eating.

There are also a couple of videos, one of a small shark caught in the deep. It was looked after and returned to fight another day. Another showing a couple of tiny flathead on plastics in over 40m fishing out of Fingal. It was hard to find any of legal size on the Sunday morning.

Outing results for June.

Heaviest Bag: Margaret Norgard
Heaviest Fish: Peter Mills (Pigfish)
