One of my seasoned clients was recently told by her Dr that she needs to start “skipping and jumping” for her osteoporosis.
Here’s the problem with blanket advice like that, bone health is important and impact matters however so does appropriateness.
For many women in their 60s, 70s and beyond, especially those with tendon pain, arthritis, balance issues, joint replacements, fear of falling, prolapse concerns or deconditioning, high-impact exercise will often create or amplify problems more than they make progress.
There’s good intentioned advice out there to also “walk more” however walking alone is usually not enough to significantly preserve or rebuild bone density once osteoporosis or osteopenia is developing.
Walking is wonderful for circulation, mood, mobility and general health however bones respond best to progressive load and muscular challenge.
That means the body benefits from:
✔️ Progressive strength training
✔️ Tendon loading
✔️ Muscle pull through bone
✔️ Balance and gait work
✔️ Postural strength
✔️ Controlled force production
✔️ Weight-bearing movement done consistently and correctly
Bones don’t just respond to movement, they respond to smart load.
The truth is, many women first need to rebuild tendon capacity, stability, coordination and confidence before their body is ready for higher impact work safely.
This is exactly why I created Tendon Revival.
It’s not another “exercise class”, it’s structured longevity-focused training for women who want to stay strong, upright, capable and independent as they age.
Because ageing well isn’t about flogging your body or doing random things that increase the risk of injury or waste your investment of time.
It’s about teaching your body to tolerate and adapt to load properly and about preserving strength, stability, bone integrity and confidence for the decades ahead.
If you’ve been told to “just walk more” or have had generic exercise advice thrown your way, that doesn’t feel right for your body anymore, there is a better, safer, smarter way.
