✨🏆 The Narrandera Golden Boot – Remembering Wilko 🏆✨

This year’s Golden Boot is more than just footy – it’s about celebrating Wilko, the mate, the teammate, the family man we’ll never forget 💛💙

And what better way to honour him than coming together, having a laugh, and raising some serious money for his family.

🔥 The Charity Auction is stacked with once-in-a-lifetime items you won’t want to miss… imagine pulling on a match-worn Parramatta Eels jersey, owning a player-issued Sydney Roosters guernsey, or backing the girls with a signed 2025 Wests Tigers NRLW jersey. Maybe you’re AFL mad and the Essendon jumper is calling your name. Or maybe you want to live it up with a Brumbies open-air box match day experience. And for the rev-heads… a signed Supercars jersey that will have you grinning ear to ear 🏎💨

Every bid, every cheer, every dollar raised goes straight to Wilko’s family – helping them in the same way he always helped everyone else.

👉 Don’t miss it. Get around it. Let’s make this Golden Boot one to remember.

🚨 The countdown is on… Golden Boot 2025 is almost here! 🚨

November 12 | Narrandera

This year’s event is shaping up to be huge – with 16 teams already registered and the coffee van stocked up to fuel you before you hit the field ☕⚡.

But beyond the footy and fun, we’re coming together for something much bigger.

We’re making the trip across NSW to Remember Wilko!

DSC Carl Wilkinson tragically passed away in December last year, leaving behind his partner and 3 beautiful kids. Wilko served in both the city and Southern Region, and everyone who knew him will tell you the same – he was a true gentleman who gave his all for his family and the community he served.

This year we’re raising money for his family, and most importantly, showing his kids that their Dad will never be forgotten.

This Golden Boot, we’re Remembering Wilko.

Happy Birthday to the spirit of the Boot - Douglas Nyholm JP. For those that have not had the privilege of listening to Douglas passionately speak about what it means to attend the Boot, you have not lived.

Lucky for you though, he will be attending once more.

Hope you were able to enjoy some waves at Crystals today. ✌️

Well the sun has set on another year of the Boot!

Another fantastic day made all the while better with good spirits, great comradery and the perfect mix of rain and sunshine.

The carnival kicked off in great style on Tuesday night at the newly opened Bidgee Hotel. Great tunes matched equally with Booters taking to the dancefloor until the calls for 'one more song' fell on deaf ears and all were quickly ushered out on to the very moist East Street and home to bed (for some).

Wednesday morning saw all greeted with grey skies and light precipitation and the usual messages of "is the Golden Boot still on". The naysayers nayed, but in all my time there has never been a Boot cancelled as a result of the stuff falling from the sky. As sure as the 'bidgee flows through Narrandera, the sun came out and so did the humid conditions we have become accustomed to over many years.

Games were played under the watchful eye of the Golden Boot Patron Douglas Kristian looking for and adjudicating on teams who played in the spirit of what the day is intended for. Early on the Griffith and local Eastern Cluster teams were identified as meeting the criteria for the Nyholm Spirit Award, and awarded free passage to the quarter finals.

The lunch break saw the traditional mascots race with the Canobolas Thunder gnome take the honours. A mascots game then followed along the lines of people vs animals. Warren the Wookie was a standout taking the hard carries. Chicken Little was solid in defence, albeit getting a little high on occasions. The Pink Fairy seemed confused about where they should be and Fireman Sam led from the front.

Finals time saw some close matches and ultimately the local NDA's Most Wanted up against crowd favourites, the Wagga Wookies. Unfortunately for the Wookies in the second consecutive year, they fell short in the final.

Well done to Malek and his crew - the first non service team to drink from the Boot, albeit only four of you were eligible to!

Although team numbers were down on the previous year, Wednesday night was another cracker....thanks again to Aaron Oldaker's Live Music for keeping us entertained and the Narrandera Imperial Football - Netball Senior and Junior Club for keeping us hydrated.

Marty and Jeff from Police Association of NSW and Boyd at Police Bank for their continued sponsorship and recognition of the importance this day has for many people in and our of this job.

Pleased to report with everyones effort $12,500 was raised which will go a long way to helping young James and his family on his road to recovery.

A couple of thank you's for the day:
- Dean and the PTI's from NSW PCOS, not many injuries this year will be attributed to the warm up that went for longer than the trip to Narrandera.
- Abby and Active Health Riverina for supporting us with treatments and strapping for those used the service
- Loz, Mila and Ivie for helping in the canteen and selling all the raffle tickets
- Anyone who refereed, its a tough gig and one no one wants to do.
- My good mates Adam Levo the Prince of Narrandera for coordinating everything local and Tom Karey for making the trip down and helping out as needed.
- And finally Douglas Kristian - we got you down here against your will and you had a ball. This day doesn't have the same energy without you and going forward it'll have a different feel without you. There's always time for 'one more year' Douglas.

Over and out for me, its been a good decade or so but the reins have been passed over to Rhys 'the Money Man' Hanley. 🤟

See y'all next year - 12 November.

For christ's sake put it in your unavailables now!

Looks and sounds like the Bidgee Hotel will be the place to be on Boot Eve. See you all there for happy hour.

So..... a little bit more about who we are raising funds for this year.

James is the 15 year old son of Sgt Kerry Bartlett who is stationed at Riverina PD

On 3 August this year James was playing in Junee Knockout Rugby League carnival when during a tackle he dislocated his knee.

The dislocation saw all but one ligament torn off the bone and his main nerve and artery severed. As a result he required emergency surgery and received a vein transplant which caused many complications and saw him in ICU for a week. James stayed at Wagga Base Hospital for a further three weeks undergoing a further ten surgeries.

James was flown to Westmead Children's Hospital, where he spent the next six weeks and had a further five surgeries. This included skin grafts and two attempts at a reconstruction.

Unfortunately they have been unable to reconstruct James' knee or reattach the nerves, leaving him still unable to move his foot or toes, in addition to no feeling from his knee down.

James returned to Wagga Base Hospital the night before his 15th birthday and after one more week he was able to go home.

The road to recovery will be a long one ahead for James as he still has a number of surgeries planned, with the hope that he will be able to lift his foot so he is able to walk unaided.

James has shown maturity and resilience well beyond his age and his determination has seen him move quickly from being unable to sit up for any length of time to now using crutches.

Kerry was able to stay by his side in hospital every night with his dad and little sister traveling to Sydney every weekend.

As anyone who has been in a situation similar can comment on, no only the financial strain of regular travel, time off work and time in hospital, but the emotional strain quickly adds up. The long term long terms costs for medication, renting / buying items that allows for James to be at home and unforeseen medical bills will continue for many years ahead.

I know you will all dig deep and support this beautiful family next Wednesday.
