Sharon has confirmed all the things we have been saying about Kickbikes for years now. It's also really heartening to hear it come from someone well credentialled in cycling. Thanks Sharon for putting all this into words. Thanks also to Danny from ScooterBike Adventures, in Australia for being such a strong Kickbike supporter, and picking Kickbike as preferred supplier of his ScooterBike fleet. Also thanks to Victor Popov, for recognising Kickbikes value, and passionately referring people to ScooterBike Adventures for their rehabilitation.
So, to all you NZ Kickbike nuts, get training and start to etch your stories into Kickbike NZ future

Why did you start ScooterBiking?
After a couple of successful racing years where I became a multiple Queensland state medallist and achieved results in a multitude of club and open races, I was diagnosed with a hip injury (torn labrum) in 2012. After surgery I then had to work through niggly conditions that precluded me from getting back into cycling consistently and to be competitive again. I began working with highly respected Physio, Victor Popov. Early in 2018 he pleaded with me to go and see a man called Danny Hovey about ScooterBiking. The ScooterBike has been a tool that Victor has prescribed for professional level athletes’ rehabilitation and conditioning purposes since his time with the Brisbane Lions in 2000. I took his advice and within weeks, I was feeling a difference particularly around my posture and ability to cycle more consistently and powerfully.
Why have you kept ScooterBiking?
I have kept ScooterBiking for two reasons: (1) the social aspect. I have met some lovely and inspiring people through the sport who all have their own amazing stories and find ScooterBiking so good for them that they set themselves challenges they never thought were possible; and (2) it helps to maintain a good posture and in turn allows me to continue riding the bike on a competitive level. It has improved my posture so much so that the ScooterBike is now part of my ongoing training schedule!
Would you encourage someone like yourself to give ScooterBiking a try?
As cycling is one of the few activities in which muscles contract concentrically (while shortening), rather than eccentrically (while lengthening), the repetitive motion causes muscles to shorten if action is not taken. ScooterBiking does the opposite to these muscles and is the “action” I take to keep my lower back, ITBs and glutes in a supple condition. Hence, I’d highly recommend this sport to any cyclist and runner. However, overall I would recommend ScooterBiking for anyone as it’s a great way to build and maintain overall fitness without putting pressure on the body, it’s easy, affordable and very transportable to the multitude of lovely waterfront pathways Brisbane has on offer!
Current ScooterBike Goals – Complete 50 km on the ScooterBike in the upcoming MS Brissie to Bay ride. Compete at the State FootBike Titles in July.
