O'Dowd Finishes 2021 in Adelaide.

John O'Dowd and Toni Feaver have completed a successful 2021, taking 6th place at the Adelaide Rally for the Modern competition category.

Competing for the second time in his Porsche GT3, a decision to change suspension on the rear wheel drive performance machine proved costly in the early stages. "After Targa West, we decided to swap the standard suspension and try something better", commented O'Dowd. "But we went a bit too far, and it was way too hard on the first day. Some of the stages were very short, pretty bumpy and twisty, and the suspension was so hard it was making the car really unsettled."

"We worked on it, and by the mid-point of the event, and after a lot of adjustments, we were pretty much on top of it. We did manage to make a few positions, but this is a pretty competitive event and you really have to be 'on it' from stage one. But we did get a better understanding of the car. It's only our second event in it, so Adelaide was really valuable in so far as it's more seat time. It might sound obvious, but the Porsche is quite a different beast to the gravel-spec Skoda. There's a bit of a learning curve there."

"Overall, it's been a pretty great year. We managed to claim our third WA Rally Championship in the Skoda and we've now completed two tarmac events in the Porsche. Next year, hopefully, we'll be able to contest some ARC - Motorsport Australia Rally Championship events and maybe even some tarmac events on the east coast."

"I've got to give a huge thanks to Race Torque Engineering for all of their hard work this year. The cars are always perfectly prepared and ready to go. And also thanks to Toni; she is one of the best co-drivers in the country, and I'm really lucky to have someone of her experience and knowledge sitting in the car with me."

"And finally a big thank you to the RallyWA.com organisers, who have done such a stellar job all year running the series. It takes a lot of time and effort to run our state series, and it's always run at a really professional level."

With state borders slowly starting to open, the next event for O'Dowd and Feaver could be April's National Capital Rally in Canberra. "It's all up in the air at the moment. We've just returned from Adelaide and have had to quarantine, which does make life a little difficult. We'll just have to be a bit flexible with our planning, but hopefully the state borders will stay open and allow us to do some national-level events in 2022."

Last night we received our trophies for winning the Dunlop Tyres WA State Rally Championship. Unfortunately we couldn’t attend due to being in quarantine since our return from Adelaide Rally. Luckily we had some very special people able to accept them on our behalf. Thanks to everyone involved, it sounds like it was a great night. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Christmas. Looking forward to another exciting year in motorsport next year.

Some Porsche Goodness heading to Adelaide from interstate! Western Australian entrants John O Dowd and Toni Feaver will be campaigning an ex Jim Richards 911 in Adelaide in just a few weeks time, with John's enviable reputation in gravel preceeding him, we cant wait to see what he will do on Adelaide Tarmac and how close he might get to taking the Adelaide Tourist Trophy back to W.A?

O'Dowd / Feaver Take the Title.

John O'Dowd and Toni Feaver have won the 2021 Experts Cup, and with it the 2021 WA Rally Championship title, their third title in four years.

Third car on the road, and for the first time this year on dry roads, O'Dowd controlled his speed in the first loop of three stages, returning to first service in second place overall and just one second behind championship rival Ben Searcy - Swift Motorsport.

"We only had to finish fifth to win the title, so there was no point pushing too hard too early. As it turned out, Ben (Searcy) had a problem during the second loop of stages and we were able to take the lead and maintain it to the end of the event."

"It's my third championship in four years, and I couldn't have done it without the expertise of Toni Feaver in the car. She is such a professional co-driver, and she has played a massive part in these championships."

"Likewise having Race Torque Engineering looking after the car preparation has also been a vital ingredient. They really know how to setup the ŠKODA Motorsport Fabia. They have years of experience and it really shows."

Next event on the calendar for O'Dowd and Feaver will be the Adelaide Rally at the end of November. "Hopefully the borders stay open! At the moment the border with South Australia is open to all of Australia, so hopefully it stays that way for the next four weeks. We've all learnt to be pretty flexible over the past two years, but I'm hoping we can get over there and have a good hard run in the Porsche GT3".

And during the off-season, O'Dowd will go back under the knife for more shoulder surgery. "I've not had a good run on my mountain bike! I had one shoulder reconstruction 18 months ago, but now I'll need to have the other shoulder repaired. I've been in a bit of pain and had it strapped up for the last couple of events, so it will be good to get fixed once and for all. I just need to get a roll cage fitted to my bike!"

The Adelaide Rally runs for four days (November 25-28) with stages contested within an easy drive of Adelaide.

We did it!! 3 time WA Rally Champions! Made all the better with taking the event win at Rd 6 of the WA Rally Championship, the Experts Cup in Collie. The roads were in amazing condition, and although we didn’t have our best performance on this rally, we had the best prep and luck.
Thanks to for their constant support and high standards, you guys are the best. Great competition all year with .nicoli , we all had our moments of misfortune this season.
Thanks to our sponsors Truck Wholesale WA, K-Craft Bullbars, Wade Fleet Maintenance and Perth Cryoclinic.
