Wow !!!! What a day. Yesterday, through Nana Glen Cricket Club’s Pink Stumps Day, was the finest example of cricket clubs and the community working together to raise ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS for the McGrath Foundation.
The day was initiated by Tamara Morgan and fully supported by a hard-working NGCC committee. The fundraising was sourced from a raffle, bbq/drinks, the sale of Pink Stumps clothing and donations. Thank you to all that attended, supported and contributed to such a fantastic day.
The raffle prizes were donated by Dan Murphy’s, West High Street Boutique Butchery and the Coffs Harbour Breakers AFL club. John Tarlinton was the winner of the main prize which was $300 of wine from Dan Murphy’s. West High Street Boutique Butchery have excelled with their recent donations to the Junior Come and Try Day, plus the Pink Stumps Day….thank you.
We had perfect weather and pristine fields to host T20 games between Nana Glen’s 3rd grade team against the Orara Valley Axemen RLFC, and Nana Glen’s 4th grade against Coutt’s Crossing Cricket Club.
Nana Glen 3rd Grade (sponsored by the Coramba Hotel) had a convincing win over the Axemen in what was described as an ‘entertaining’ game. There was plenty of swinging of the willow and dropped catches, but the game will be the subject of much banter for many years. They plan to make the game and annual event. The Axemen have been great supporters of our club and various events…..thank you.
Nana Glen 4th Grade (sponsored by Kingdom Denture Clinic) played well but failed to chase down Coutts Crossing’s massive score. This was 4th time they have played these pre-season matches with the scores now being 2 - 2. Thank you to Coutts Crossing for supporting the event.
There was a bit of pomp and ceremony at the event with the unveiling of Nana Glen Cricket Club’s first scoreboard which was named after Life Member (and current President), Bevan Young. Bevan is a Nana Glen local and has been involved with the cricket for approximately 40 years. We would like to thank Burnett Civil for sponsoring the scoreboard which will be housed at Len Towells Oval. The 1908 shown on the scoreboard represents the year that our cricket club was established.
The day was capped off with great music entertainment from Nana Glen first grader, Matt Giri. Matt was able to modify the scoreboard to suit his surname…great work.
It was the first time that the two large pavilions have been used at Len Towells Oval and they proved to be a great asset for the comfort of those at the ground. The amenities block is nearing the completion of construction, maybe just a few more weeks until they are finished.

The Nana Glen Cricket Club looks set for a great season and we expect to have 9 teams competing (4 seniors and 5 juniors). Go the Lizards !!!!!!!!
