POG Surfboards

POG Surfboards Modern retro and short boards from PU polyester, EPS epoxy, EPS timber veneer and Hollow Wooden Surfboards. I still hand shape quite a few prototypes though.

I hand shaped my first board in about 1981 and have been shaping boards mostly part time ever since. I like to use the AKU shaper, a surfboard shaping program that allows me to get my shapes faithfully reproduced on a CNC machine. I like to produce retro single and twin fin shapes of the 70's and 80's with a few modern aspects thrown in. I also like to shape modern shortboards, thrusters , quads, midlengths and mals.

Taken a few ideas on board for these ones. Its a single fin. This one is 6'6", I've designed a 5'9", 6'0", 6'3" 6'6" and 7'0". Vee double concave that everyone is so keen on at the moment. Allows the board to rock rail to rail, and the concave increases rail bight. Thickness forward and rising rail apex to loosen up the nose. Rolled off tail, not boxy at all from 1 foot from tail back for drive. Old school narrow pin tail, wide point forward of midway and fuller nose outline for over all directional stability. Modernised rocker and rail shape in the mid section and nose. Flat vee in nose, double concave starts around the front foot, deepest at the back foot, flat vee across the last few inches of the tail.

My trusty 5'9" Twin Pin Cuttle Fish, my go to board here in Hainan. That weight is inclusive of fins, deck grip and wax. I used my own proprietary construction method to achieve a very lightweight and strong surfboard. This one is about three years old and well surfed, yet with hardly any deck indentations.

5'9" X 20" X 2 1/2" hand shaped SL EPS (approx 13 kg/m3), 2x 6oz + 1 X 4oz deck, 1 X 6oz + 1x 4oz bottom. This board is 10 years old, been to the Maldives and the Ments a couple of times, ridden a lot on the sunny coast too.
Barely a dent in the deck !
The light weight EPS absorbs extra resin into the interstitial voids between the closed cells up to 1/2 an inch into the blank. This creates a honeycombed matrix supporting the outer glass layer. I use this construction on all my epoxy boards. No medium or hard density foam, it doesn't have the absorption capacity and remains much softer than this construction method. This board is similar weight to lightweight 4oz PU board.
