*Tournament results*

Firstly, a big thank you to all players. We hope you enjoyed the day. We also appreciate those who filled in at the last minute to ensure we had 40 players.

Secondly, thank you to William Smith for doing up a fantastic spreadsheet for our games and lending us the laptop for the day. It was a great help and saved us so much time.

Lastly, a big thank you to the organisers Andrew Smith and Taek Byeon for getting everything running smoothly and to those who helped input scores and organise players for games on the day.

Hi everyone,
Rankings have been completed as you can see below. Teams are being organised now and should be announced Thursday or Friday.

*Payment and competition information*
Hi everyone,
Entries have closed for the competition next Saturday and we have 39 entered players which means everyone who entered has a spot! (Please check the updated list pinned on our page if you aren’t sure.) We are currently finding a player to fill our last remaining spot and we are hoping they will be someone who fits somewhere into our top 16 to even out the lines a bit.

Official rankings and teams will be sent out on either Thursday or Friday.

Payment:
Payment is to be paid to the Sunshine Coast Badminton Association bank account:

Account name: Sunshine Coast Badminton Association
BSB: 064424
Account Number: 00902604
Amount: $35
Ref: *Player name* Team Comp 22/08

All players are required to pay the $35 entry fee by 11:59pm on Wednesday 19th to secure your spot. Failure to do so will lead to you losing your spot.

Tournament information:
The hall will be open from 8:00am on Saturday in order for players to get ready and warm up. Matches will start at 8:45am sharp and we will be aiming for a 4:30pm finish.

We ask that all bags and equipment be stored upstairs when you arrive and that you keep the court-side benches clear while games are happening.

We will have a sign in sheet at the front door where you can tick off your name. Last time we had a missing player and we weren’t aware until we called their first game.

The top 3 lines in each team are only playing with/against each other and they will play 9 games to 21. All other lines are playing 9 games to 25. This has been decided based on feedback from a multitude of players from previous team competitions.

More information will be explained on the day before matches start.

*REMINDER* Entries for our competition next Saturday close tomorrow at 7pm. When entries close, we will announce the players. If we do not get 40 entries, we will keep entries open for another day. If we still don’t get 40 players, we will have to cut it down to 36 to make 4 teams of 9 players. Currently, we have some spaces left so everyone who has entered so far will be in.

We have had a few people ask why we are taking top 40 ranked entries instead of first in, first served like in previous years and here are the reasons:

1. This allows all SCBA players a fair opportunity to enter over the 2 weeks entries are open without it being a wild rush at the beginning. Some players may be on holidays when entries open and not find out about it until they get back and some people need to find out if they can take the day off work to play which may take some time.

2. It makes the spread of skill level at the bottom ranks more even.
In previous years, we have had instances where there is 1 player who is far below the next lowest ranked players and they barely win a game. This makes balancing the teams especially difficult and it also is not enjoyable for the other players.

3. This year’s committee is focusing on running tournaments with the strongest players in mind and working down from there.
We believe that if we incentivise the top players to play, the players a step down from them will also want to have the chance to play with them. This then makes the players just below them want to play and so on and so forth.

The idea is that most people want to play but not everyone can because of the high level required instead of everyone can play and few people want to due to low level entries.

Ideally, everyone would be able to play but as we are limited by the number of courts at the hall, we have to find the system that makes the best tournaments.

This being said, there is another comp coming up on the 26th of September run by Amber, Leah and Lena which will be accepting 48 players and we encourage everyone to enter once it is officially announced.

Thanks,
- SCBA committee

Hi Everyone, just a reminder that the entries for the team competition close on this coming Saturday at 7pm. If you want to play, get your entries in and we will announce the final ranked player list after entries close.
You can enter by responding to any of our posts about the tournament, sending a direct message to SCBA via Facebook messenger or by email.
Currently, all entered players have a spot and we have up to 14 spaces left to fill. If we do not fill all 40 spaces, we will cut it down to the nearest multiple of 4. I.e if we get 38 players and can’t find 2 more, we will cut it to 36.

In regards to payment, we will put out the bank details on Saturday and payment will be required by Wednesday 19th of August. Anyone who doesn’t pay by the end of that day will lose their spot. Last time we had to chase up a lot of people for payment after the tournament and that won’t be the case this time.

Hi everyone, we have decided for the time being to postpone Friday night socials for now due to low numbers including tonight.

That being said, we are looking for expressions of interest for King of the Court social/competition on Saturday mornings once or twice a month. we will put out a poll to help determine the best time and frequency for that.

*Team competition announcement*
Hi everyone, we have decided to run a team competition on Saturday the 22nd of August before our new floor is installed.

It will be a team comp with 4 teams of 8-10 players (depending on entries).

Entry details:
Entries for this competition will function the same way as our previous comp where all SCBA members may put their name forward. After entries close, all players will be ranked and at this stage, the top 40 will be informed of their selection. Last time we had exactly 40 entries and no one who entered missed out.
All players must be members of an SCBA affiliated club (nambour, yandina, cooroy, caboolture).

To enter, there are a few options. You can respond to this post, talk to or message Andrew Smith, message SCBA directly or send an email to [email protected]

Payment:
This tournament will be $35 for entry. After entries close, we will send the payment details to the selected players.

We will continue to post information plus updated entry lists in the lead up to the event.
