Vale
Nambour members are sad to announce the passing of one of our long standing and well loved members.
Patrick Farrell was a gentleman you don’t forget, a larger than life Irishman with a personality and wit to match.
He had given up playing regularly due to health problems but continued in his role of Publicity Officer until late last year. He was always a regular attender at our St Patrick’s Day celebrations playing his part appropriately.
We will miss his cheerfulness and his affection, he always had a joke to tell. There will never be another Patrick.

Nambour members will be meeting at the Nambour RSL tomorrow lunch time to pay our respects to his memory.

Rest peacefully Patrick.

Well it finally happened, NCC held it’s Celebration of Women in Croquet and High Tea, on June 28th. With bad weather and cancellations behind us our fantastic members made it an event to celebrate.
It was worth the wait, with blue skies, happy faces and beautiful table settings. Appearing from members’ and their families’ cupboards was delicate bone china, tiered cake plates and beautiful tea and coffee pots, dainty bite sized savouries and cakes .. a joy to behold!
Must mention the Portuguese tarts made by a members husband.
The visitors laughed and played and interacted with some showing very promising play,
The tea was introduced by a reading, from member, Ann Hutson, a very thoughtful and meaningful touch explaining the purpose of International Women’s Day.
Our Patron and founder member, Muriel Peters, was present and able to chat to visitors explaining the long history and establishment of NCC.
Too many folk to acknowledge regarding the outstanding tea and decor but appreciation from all members and visitors was expressed.
All this against a background of flood devastation affecting all areas of the club structure and equipment, all insured but still to be rectified.
Must add we felt sorry for our menfolk and so invited them to play on lawns separate from the ladies. We did give them a cup of tea and piece of cake!

šŸ“œ Throwback Thursday: Croquet at Dalby Jubilee Sanatorium c. 1900–1920

Here's a fascinating glimpse into the past—staff enjoying a game of croquet outside the main entrance of the Dalby Jubilee Sanatorium in the early 1900s.

The sanatorium was established to treat patients suffering from consumption (now known as tuberculosis), which was a major public health issue at the time. Amidst their serious work, the staff found time for leisure—and croquet was clearly a favourite!

Take a look at that lawn—not quite the closely mown, smooth playing surface we expect today, but the spirit of the game was alive and well.

šŸ”™ Blast from the Past šŸ”™

Check out this classic snap of croquet players Florence Rogers (NSW) and Florence George (TAS)—suitably attired and striking a pose, circa 1950s (we're guessing!).

Florence Rogers was the first life member of Cammeray Croquet Club, and the club’s A Grade Championship trophy is named in her honour—a true local legend of the game.

If anyone has any background or stories about Florence George, we’d love to hear them —drop it into the comments below! šŸ‘‡

We at Nambour CC have to cancel our already re-scheduled Ladies Day Croquet and High Tea for March 29th. The club house was inundated on the recent flooding with water ruining floor covering, fridges and more. We thought the event could go ahead with considerable cleaning up already undertaken and by improvising (borrowed fridge etc).
Today the decision was made to cancel, with regret.
We understand that other clubs in Queensland and the Northern Rivers regions have suffered too and send them our understanding and best wishes, hoping you recover and repair your premises soon, as we are trying to do .

The Nambour CC new shed is now fully installed, achieved with a Gambling Community grant.
We were lacking a ramp until Gary Coulstock of Constructions New House Builds and Renovations kindly donated and installed one for us, as shown in the photo and at no cost to the club.
Thank you Gary from all our members. You are a Star!

This will be worth watching.
