🎣 30 Years of Family, Fishing & Community 🎣

What is the Putt Bennett Family Fishing Festival?

Every January, families, friends and fishing enthusiasts gather at North Beach Recreation & Bowling Club for a weekend that has become so much more than just a fishing competition.

Participants can fish the beaches, rock & estuaries between the Nambucca River and Coffs Harbour, making it an event that’s accessible whether you enjoy fishing from the bank, the beach, the rocks, a kayak or a boat. People of all ages and all fishing abilities are encouraged to get involved.

What began in 1995 as a small community event has grown into the largest family fishing festival of its kind in NSW, welcoming more than 800 participants in 2026.

The festival was created by a group of friends to honour the memory of their mate, Putt Bennett, a well known local and passionate fisherman. Thirty years on (thanks to the COVID interruptions), his legacy continues to bring our community together each summer.

One of the things that makes our festival unique is that it’s not just about catching the biggest fish. Almost half of our prizes are randomly drawn, giving everyone a chance to walk away a winner. It’s about spending time outdoors, making memories with family and friends, and celebrating our incredible community.

We’re so excited to celebrate this special milestone with you all.
