Lake Liddell Speedbowl-Night 1
Danny and the team headed to Lake Liddell Speedbowl for our final weekend of racing, a weekend tinged with sadness that this is our last run. Thrilled to have Danny's son Josh along for the ride!
Arrived early enough on Friday to register for practice night (despite team objections!) You really can't hold a racer back, any opportunity to hit the track will be taken. Turned out to be a good AND bad decision, as the car refused to fire up; turned out to be a flat battery so after a quick change Dan was ready to go. Two laps in, disaster-Danny hit a rut which caused him to flip the car in quite the impressive rollover, destroying both top and front wings. Driver A-OK and wasnted to keep going, unaware of the wing damage, which of course could not happen! Rest of the evening was spent changing the wings, with a couple of well-deserved beers around the fire.
Saturday racing for the Stones Windscreens Country Series was fast and furious, all drivers racing 2 heats and the feature. In his first heat from P2, Danny was quick off the mark leading from start to finish to grab the first heat win of the night.
In his second heat from P4, the racing was great between Danny and the A1 of Chris Davis, with Dan running low and Chris high there was nothing between them, Chris eventually coming out the winner with Dan a close second. Heats done and a first and second saw Dan out of pole for the feature.
With 20 laps on the board and a field of great drivers, it was going to be no easy task to take a win here. A couple of incidents brought on the yellow, with Dan out in front for both restarts. And at the drop of the chequered flag, it was Danny who lead the field home, taking out first place in our final run for the country series!
Congratulations to podium placers Chris Davis 2nd and Leo Heaton in 3rd, Leo taking his first podium place with the Lightnings.
A BBQ, beers and a fire followed with the club, enjoying the company of great friends.
As always thanks to pit crew Ross Winsley, Josh Stone, Zac and Donna Willis, could not do it without your help.
Our final ever race is today at Lake Liddell Speedway. Looking forward to racing with great mates in this great club.
