Week 8: Bendemeer - Uralla

Happy Saturday!

We stayed at Wooldridge campground for the past week, just chillin! Lots of hiking through the state forest collecting firewood, spotting the local wallabies, platypus and birdlife, and lots of satellites, shooting stars and the ISS at night. Temperatures starting to climb, no need for the diesel heater ☺️☺️ A lovely relaxing week before we start off on out next adventure!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Week 7: Bendemeer - Uralla

Happy Friday!

Bendemeer did not disappoint. We stayed at a lovely camp right on the MacDonald River, walking distance to the local pub, somewhere Dons' Dad had stayed in his surveying days, where we enjoyed a cheeky afternoon bevvy ☺️ and spent time just chilling out for a while. Very much enjoyed our pizza homemade from scratch including the base!

Our next stop was Uralla, past home of bushranger Captain Thunderbolt (Frederick Worsdworth Ward), a grand total of 38km down the road 🤣 on our way we stopped at Thunderbolt's Rock and Thunderbolt's grave, both interesting with their links to Australia's bushranger history. We spent the afternoon on a walk around this historic town, taking in magnificent old buildings, with of course a pit stop at the Bolt Inn, named after the famous Captain!

The next few days were spent at Wooldridge Fossicking area just out of town, a camp on the aptly named Rocky River and surrounded by magnificent birdsong. Our du*****es thought we'd hit the jackpot on our first walk to the river, which was absolutely sparkling with what we thought were gold specks everywhere; closer investigation revealed it was in fact mica, which mimics the look of gold. Oh well, maybe next time!

We've spent the days fossicking for gemstones (no luck), hiking and sightseeing, with an early start this morning to look for the resident platypus (again no luck!). However, we have managed to master the art of cooking damper in the camp oven!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Week 6: Ilford - Lake Liddell - Tamworth - Moonbi - Bendemeer

Happy Friday!!

Our last night at Ilford was spent around the fire stargazing, one of the clearest nights we've seen so far. More than 60 satellites, several shooting stars, and a fabulous meteor that started green, went white and exploded in a shower of smaller pieces, was truly something to see!!

Speedway called and we answered!!! We headed to Lake Liddell, speedway friends Mel and Chris Davis' eldest boy taking to the track for the first time was not to be missed, and he did well! It was fabulous to watch the next generation beginning their journey, and it was equally fabulous being at one of our favourite tracks again ☺️ a really fun night catching up with wonderful friends and a lovely family ☺️

Headed next to Tamworth, with a cheeky stop at Hunter Belle Cheese Factory in Muswellbrook. We enjoyed tasting several cheeses made onsite and settled on just one, but we could have bought them all! Spent the next couple of days at Tamworth catching up on washing and shopping, and took in both the Golden Guitar and the giant stock man at the Stockman's Hotel. Funniest thing I've seen since we left is Dan hooking up the clothes line to an electric fence, very quickly realising his mistake, and spending the next few minutes getting zapped trying to get it off 🤣🤣🤣 I really wish I would have filmed that!!

Our next stop was Moonbi Lookout where we spent the afternoon exploring, great views from here and we watched the sun sink from the top of a huge granite boulder with a cheeky glass of Bailey's ☺️ A late roll up parked next to us and we were treated to some very good singing; discovered later that it was in fact Kasey Chambers ☺️ can't do better than a free camp and great live music!

We then travelled a grand total of 12km up the road to Bendemeer, sitting in front of an open fire and enjoying the serenity. Hope everyone has a great weekend
