A Black Belt grading is a special milestone. It is the only time a Sifu personally presents a student with a new belt, removing the red belt to mark their transition to a senior member of the club.

Midwinter movement is essential to maintaining our overall wellbeing. Practicing Tai Chi in a warm and welcoming environment is a great way to introduce gentle exercise through the cooler months benefiting mind, body and spirit.

Congratulations to Heather for successfully achieving her 1st Degree Black Sash in Tai Chi! 🎉

Heather started her journey at Golden Lion Academy back in 2015. She is an accredited instructor in Tai Chi at our Berwick centre.

During her grading, her performance exemplified her many years of dedication, patience and perseverance.

At the HYX Oceania International Invitational Wushu Kung Fu Championships 2026 in Brisbane, Golden Lion athletes achieved a total of 12 medals — 11 gold and 1 bronze —for their barehands and weapons routines.

Golden Lion has a long history of teaching traditional Chinese weapon forms. For our advanced students, beyond the foundational cudgel and southern broadsword, a diverse range of short and long weapons are studied, including the spear (Sifu Steeve’s speciality!), three-sectional staff, daggers and more, demonstrated here by our instructor group.
