Murdoch University Kendō Club The Murdoch University Kendo Club trains in Kendo (剣道) or "The Way of the Sword"

Murdoch University Kendo Club (MUKC) was founded by Chris Graham-sensei in March 1997. The club is actively involved in state and national competitions, such as the Australian Kendo Championships and Australian University Games. We are affiliated with West Australian Kendo Renmei and Australian Kendo Renmei, as well as Murdoch University Sports/Guild. Our club motto is "to know and to act, one and the same" (知行合一 chi kou gou itsu).

Join our next Beginners' Course taking place on Monday 10th of March 2025! This course will run on Mondays 6:00pm - 8:00pm and on Wednesdays 7:00pm - 9:00pm. This 12 week course introduces you to the art of Kendo and a vibrant, friendly community.

Learn the fundamental basics of Kendo, the way of the sword:
an exciting hybrid of traditional martial art and modern
sport, based on Japanese sword-fighting techniques.

Cost: $300, which includes:
• Bamboo sword (shinai) + bag
• Uniform (keiko-gi & hakama)
• Armour (bogu) rental

As we wrap up another fantastic year, we want to wish you all a joyful and restful holiday season. Thank you for your dedication and hard work throughout the year!

Congratulations to everyone who competed in the Taikai competition over the weekend 👏 in particular to Murdoch's team Swordplay Shenanigans for taking out the gold in the kata 🏆 It was great to see so many clubs represented along with all three arts; Kendo, Iaido and Jodo! Thank you also to the Consulate-General of Japan in Perth Consul-General Naito, and The Hon Samantha Rowe MLC for attending and making some opening remarks, we hope you enjoyed your time with us.

🗓️ Starting August 12th, Mondays 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm & Wednesdays 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm at Murdoch Uni Sports Centre.

Hi everyone!

Due to the upcoming university exam period, our training location and times have temporarily changed.

During this period, the university gym floor will be used for exams; we will be moving our training to the upstairs multipurpose room (directly above the gym reception area).

We will be training in the upstairs room for the following dates and times:

Monday 10 June 7:30-9:30pm
Wednesday 12 June 7:30-9:30pm
Monday 17 June 7:30-9:30pm
Wednesday 19 June 7:30-9:30pm
Please take special note that the training time on Wednesdays will be 7:30pm - 9:30pm.

To access the multipurpose room; take the staircase or elevator in the hallway directly opposite the gym service desk, the room is through a glass sliding door at the top of the stairs. If you get lost, look out for a fellow club member, or the gym staff will be able to guide you. This is a carpetted room, so please be mindful of your feet.

During this period please be careful to keep any noise to a minimum as exams are being run around the university campus.

Training will return to our normal location and times starting Monday 24th June.
