~ A little reminder ~
Please be mindful of where you send your children for riding and learning about horses. Try to find the places (i know thereβs not that many around) that has professionally trained and educated teachers with safety procedures in place and ofcourse insurance.
Horses demands respect. Horse riding is a very dangerous sport with possible high impact injuries.
Everyone who rides will fall off. It is part of riding.
But an experienced instructor will be able to teach beginners in the safest way possible;
They will teach control and confidence by an understanding of the horse and how and why a horse reacts the way it does.
They will only use horses that are prepared and ready for the work that it means for a horse to meet an unexperienced person.
I feel sad seeing unprofessional people advertise camps and courses. Natural horsemanship is an extra slippery slide because it tends to be used very loosely (anything can go in under the phrase) and sometimes in a way that tries to make horse behaviour human. Horses are horses, not humans and thatβs exactly why we love them so much. It does not serve the horse to try and make it human.
Traditional horse knowledge is tried and tested for generations of many hundreds of years and works because we respect and study our horses.
Look into what training & qualification your teachers have, just as you would for other courses or training.
Unprofessional stables and teachers are not only unsafe but also undermines all the work qualified coaches have put in. It actually undermines the development of the whole equestrian industry and i would even go as far as saying it is in some ways, a disrespect towards horses. Such a magnificent animal deserves respect and love.
Horses have always been my best friends and riding is the most fun one can have! I hope for everyone who wishes to be around horses to have a fun and safe journey.
