Checking the wind today and I thought perfect for a good bike ride…didn’t check the temperature. So although the wind speed Nd directions were good, 36oC became 46oC on the bike path as the road surface baked in the sun. OMG! ☀️ 🥵 🚴

Thankfully it should be cooler in 6 weeks for the event.

I started today at 5:30am feeling very heavy and tired. 649m into my beach surf run and I was ready to give up and walk back to the start for a coffee. Some days are like this. But I kept going….one foot in front of the other.

The sand was soft in some places, hard in others. The waves lapped over my feet and ankles and I kept going. Why? Because I’m here. I can do it. There are people in this world who would love to do what I am doing. There are those who have departed this world who would have given everything they had, to be able to do what I am doing now.

Knuckle down, mind over matter and run.

5km was done and OMG some of my run map was green instead of red and orange. And OMFG - I ran a 5km with reverse split times. I think that is the first time I’ve ever done that and I wasn’t even setting out to do it.

Finished off the run with a dip in the Indian Ocean and a long chat with people whose life circles are clearly meant to intersect with mine.

What a great start to the weekend!

5km sunset surf run. Soft sand and warm surf water makes for slow going, but great for training.

2026 - Day 2

5km morning recovery walk and then this evening a 5km surf jog staying in the wet sand and ankle deep water as much as possible. My legs are absolutely killing! 27kgs to lose from today and I want to have done that by the 1st of April 2026. Let’s go!!!

‘The Return of The Ironman In Me’ - Sounds like a sequal to a dodgy movie. 😂🤣

Anyway, this is Day 1 of me getting back to physical fitness and hopefully better mental fitness along the way. Feel free to comment and chat. My goal is to post each day along this part of my journey with the intention of helping and / or inspiring even just one person to get out of bed or off of the sofa to join me along the way.

And so it begins…the long road back to fitness and race ready! 🚲

I gave 824ml of plasma last week. Please, if you have a spare couple of hours, go and give blood, plasma or platelets. So many people are helped by the donations.

Sums it up! 🤣😂
