Pony Club Australia’s eight riders have made a strong start to the 2026 Pony Club International Alliance Virtual Dressage Training Challenge, recording two top-three finishes, two further top-seven results and encouraging performances across both team competitions.

The international challenge brings together Pony Club riders from around the world in a development-focused format. Following Round 1, riders receive feedback from international judges and use it to guide their training before riding and submitting the same test again in Round 2.

🐴 PRIX CAPRILLI

Our Prix Caprilli team placed fifth overall with 247.8 points.

Prix Caprilli combines dressage movements with jumping elements, presenting riders with a different challenge to a traditional dressage test.

While there is plenty to celebrate from Round 1, the challenge is designed around learning and measurable improvement. Each rider will now use the judges’ feedback to refine their training before filming the same test again.

Round 2 videos will be submitted between 20 and 30 September, with final results expected in late October.

THROWBACK THURSDAY - Pony Club Victoria Tetrathlon State Championships 2026 🐎🏊‍♀️🎯🏃‍♂️

Five months ago, on 29 March, riders came together at Dandenong Ranges Horse & Pony Club for the Pony Club Victoria State Tetrathlon Championships, tackling swimming, riding, laser shooting and running. It was a fantastic display of determination, skill and sportsmanship across all disciplines!

Since then, we were incredibly proud to see Victorian riders Chloe Leen, Emma Grave, Teesa Leen, Oliver Homer and William Nieuwenhuis go on to represent Pony Club Australia at the PCIA Tetrathlon International Exchange, alongside Coach Darcy Wade.

The exchange ran from 30 June to 20 July, with competition held across three venues in Queensland. the team had the opportunity to ride other horses and compete against competitors from the United Kingdom, United States, Ireland and New Zealand. What an incredible journey from the State Championships to the international stage!

Good coaching isn’t about removing every challenge, it’s about choosing the right challenge, at the right time, for the rider and horse in front of you.

Join us for Applying Risk Decisions, an interactive coach development session designed to put your risk assessment skills into practice.

Through realistic coaching scenarios, polls and discussion, we’ll explore how to:
-recognise when risk is changing
-decide when to Watch, Modify, Pause or Stop
-make proportionate coaching decisions
-respond when rider, horse, environment or activity factors change
-explain and recheck your decisions with confidence

This is about practice, not repetition. Applying the tools you already know when decisions need to be made in the moment.

It’s pretty special to see so many young riders reaching great equestrian goals, especially when Pony Club has played a role!

This story is a wonderful reminder of the role our clubs play in developing the next generation of equestrian athletes, while helping young riders become confident, capable and compassionate people along the way.

Pony Club is about so much more than competition too. It’s where young riders build their horsemanship, develop resilience and independence, find lifelong friends and learn the skills that can take them wherever their equestrian journey leads.

Pony Club Victoria is excited to announce the qualifying criteria for the 2027 Pony Club Victoria State Dressage and Showjumping Championships, with two significant changes creating more opportunities for riders to compete at State level.

1) 𝙊𝙥𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙢𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖
From 2027, both the State Dressage and State Showjumping Championships are open to all riders who meet the relevant qualifying criteria.

This is an exciting change for PCV and means that riders who achieve the required qualifying performances will be eligible to compete at State Championships, providing more members with the opportunity to experience competition at the highest level of Pony Club Victoria competition.

2) 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙎𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣
The 2027 State Championships will also introduce a Masters section in all grades.

The Masters section will be open to members over the age of 25 years.

This exciting addition recognises the continued participation and commitment of our adult riders and provides Masters riders with the opportunity to compete for State Championship honours in their own section.
