A very busy time is coming up with lots of events on the horizon!

June 20 and 21: Gold Coast Junior Championships @ William Duncan State School. Under 8, 10 and 18 divisions.

June 21: Brisbane North One Day Challenge @ Brisbane Boys College. Open and Novice divisions.

June 30 to July 3: Queensland Junior Championships @ Churchie. Under 8,10, 12 and 18 divisions.

July 8 to 12: Gold Coast Open @ Broadbeach Cultural Centre. Premier, Major and Minor divisions.

The Interschool Northern Run has just wrapped up today after 8 tournaments across two weeks from Gympie to Cairns. Well done to Michael and Michael for their efforts running those events. The FNQ Juniors is on tomorrow before the guys return to SEQ.

The May QJ ratings have been released!

3 players went up by over 200pts! Ryan Lo (243), Yo-Shiun Tsai (215) and Tony Tran (202). HUGE!! A total of 25 players went up 100 or more.

Meanwhile 8 players played more than 100 games in the last rating period (some games would have been prior, but only submitted now).

As we kick off term 2, we are delighted to be able to announce that Michael D'Arcy has joined our team as one of our Brisbane Area Managers.

Michael is an International Arbiter, former Chess Association of Queensland President and Secretary (amongst other roles), and was formerly a chess coach for us a number of years ago.

Michael has been Chief Arbiter at events including the Australian Junior Chess Championships, Queensland Championship, Gold Coast Open, QLD Inter-School State Finals and many more and is held in high regard across the chess community.

On top of his arbiting skillset, Michael brings a passion of wanting to help students and coaches improve, along with many other skills.

Gardiner Chess has won the tender to host the 2026 Queensland Junior Championships. We were delighted to put on an awesome event last year and can't wait for this year's tournament in what is out busiest time of year for events!

The term and all it's craziness is nearly finished, but we will be running holiday programs throughout the next two weeks!

Week 1: Gold Coast and Brisbane South Holiday Programs (Tues-Thurs) + Cup days on Fri!
Week 2: Brisbane North Holiday Program (Mon to Wed) + Cup day on Thus!

Experienced coaches teaching lessons, tournament play each day and a whole lot of fun! A great way to make new friends whilst learning more about chess.
