A big week of competition golf at Castlemaine Golf Club with strong scores across all events.

🏆 Thursday Par Competition
Liam O'Brien (+4) continued his excellent form to claim the overall win and A Grade honours, finishing one shot ahead of Jeremy Bottomley (+3). Bryan Fitzgerald won B Grade on a countback after finishing square with Kerin Lourey, while Tony Strong (+3) took out C Grade.

🏆 Saturday 9-Hole Stableford
With rain threatening, an early field of 13 players got their rounds in before the weather arrived. Kerin Lourey claimed victory with 17 points, ahead of Peter Gresswell and Glenda Jefferies.

🏆 Hero Series 4BBB – Round 2
Seventeen teams contested Round 2, with Les and Rob Prendergast combining brilliantly for 45 points to secure the win by a single point from Nigel Wilson and Marie Louise Fitzpatrick on 44.

🏆 Ladies June Monthly Medal
Marie Louise Fitzpatrick claimed the June Monthly Medal with a nett 80, finishing three shots clear of Bronwyn Gudgeon. Marie Louise also recorded the fewest putts of the day with an impressive 29.

A mixed week of weather couldn't stop some impressive scoring across the club.

Thursday Stableford

Only 13 players completed all 18 holes before the weather closed in. Peter Mangold (22) took the win with 35 points, edging Chris Donnelly (15) on a countback. Will Dodson claimed the day's only nearest-the-pin prize on the 12th.

Saturday 9 @ 9 Stableford

Bryan Fitzgerald (5) handled the tough morning conditions best, winning with 15 points, one clear of Bronwyn Gudgeon (11) on 14.

June Monthly Medal

Congratulations to Brad Sturgess (13), who claimed the June Monthly Medal after a countback victory with a superb nett 67.

Tuesday Ladies Foursomes

Julie Cross and Glenda Jefferies combined brilliantly to win with 31 points. Jen Dyer and Helen McEwen finished runners-up on 28 points, while Rosalie Roberts claimed the Nearest the Pin prize on the 12th.

🏆 9 May – Castlemaine Open

A fantastic field of 95 players contested this year's Open.

Men's Open: John Kerr (Belvoir Park) 70, runner-up Simon Sheedy (Neangar Park) 71.
Men's B Grade: Lachlan Cross (Howlong) 39 pts.
Men's C Grade:Owen Scott (Castlemaine) 31 pts.
Ladies Stableford: Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick (Castlemaine) 36 pts.

🏆 19 May – Ladies Doris Chambers Foursomes Qualifier

Julie Bottomley and Bronwyn Gudgeon won on a countback from Julie Cross and Jane Anderson after both pairs finished on 41 points. The win qualifies them for the State Final.

🏆 21 May – Monthly Medal

Andrew Wilson claimed the Monthly Medal with a superb nett 66, winning A Grade. Kevin Gardner took out B Grade with a nett 68.

🏆 23 May – Saturday Stableford

Billy Burgess led the way with 38 points to win overall and B Grade. Peter McCoombe won A Grade with 37 points, while Damien Cassidy claimed C Grade with 37 points.

🏆 28 May – Thursday Stableford

Kane Clack (A Grade), Trevor Bray (B Grade) and Billy Burgess (C Grade) were the division winners, all posting 37 points.

🏆 30 May – Saturday Stroke

Liam O'Brien produced one of the rounds of the year, finishing just five over par to comfortably win A Grade. Mark Frankling won B Grade and Damien Cassidy continued his consistent form by taking out C Grade.

Unfortunately Sunday’s Tournament event has been cancelled due to low team entries around Mother’s Day, but Saturday is still full steam ahead.

Fair enough, mums probably deserve the weekend more than golf.

Preferred tee times are filling fast, so jump in ASAP. If you’ve got family plans Saturday afternoon, why not sneak in an early round and support the club ⛳️

The Castlemaine Open returns on 9–10 May 2026.

Two days of golf, good prizes and a solid weekend at the club.

Saturday is individual events with Men’s A, B and C Grades, plus Ladies 18 Hole Stableford.

Sunday is 4 Person Gentsomes with an 11:30am shotgun start.

$20 for one day or $30 for both. Cart hire available, food running through the weekend and bar open from 11am. Play one day or both, bring a team or roll in solo.

Busy week at Castlemaine Golf Club with strong fields across all competitions. With the temperatures starting to drift down near zero, now’s the time to get out there while you can, it only gets harder to find excuses once the winter rain rolls in.

Thursday’s Stableford drew 41 players, with Garry Rotteveel producing the best round of the day to win B Grade and overall honours with 40 points. Gavin Lang took out A Grade with 39 points, while Peter Farrell won C Grade with 39. Nearest the pins went to Ian Shields on the 7th and Gavin Lang on the 12th.

Saturday morning’s Stableford saw Glenda Jefferies continue her good form with 23 points, finishing ahead of Bob Franze on 21.

Round two of the Men’s Championship attracted close to 70 players in ideal conditions. Jamieson Prendergast returned an excellent nett 65 to win overall and C Grade. Klai Jermyn won A Grade with nett 71, while Brad Sturgess claimed B Grade with nett 70. Nearest the pins went to Jamieson Prendergast on the 12th and Peter Kepsner on the 7th.

Tuesday’s opening round of the Ladies Championship also enjoyed a strong turnout. Bronwyn Gudgeon won A Grade with nett 74, while Sally McOrist took B Grade after a three-way countback on nett 72. Trish Sharrock claimed nearest the pin on the 12th.

Big week at Castlemaine, where some people played the course and others just toured it.

Thursday’s par round saw Frank Byrne (+6) take overall and B Grade, with Leigh Campbell (+5) winning A Grade and NTP on 7. Peter Verlaan (+3) finished third and runner-up in B Grade, while Nigel Wilson (+2) was second in A Grade. Julie Bottomley (+1) took out C Grade on a countback. Lachlan Brown claimed NTP on 12.

Saturday’s Monthly Medal and Round 1 of the Club Championships drew a big field, with Neil Webster (nett 70) taking A Grade and the medal, two clear of Teja Liebteru. Frank Byrne continued his form to win B Grade, and Graeme Beith took C Grade on a countback. NTPs went to Bryan Fitzgerald (7) and Owen Scott (12).

Earlier in the week, the ladies’ 4BBB fundraiser for Royal Women’s Hospital was won by Helen Skinner and Glenda Jefferies with 48 points, five clear.

Strong scores, tight finishes, and plenty happening across the week.

Beautiful morning today for Round 1 of the 2026 Men’s Club Championships

The course is in great shape thanks to our volunteers and greenskeepers

Big few days at Castlemaine ⛳️

Thursday’s Stableford saw Peter Verlaan fire 40 points to take B Grade and top spot overall. Ross Bottomley edged out Jeremy Bottomley on countback to win A Grade (38), while William Burgess claimed C Grade from Peter Smith, also on countback (39).

Easter Saturday’s 9 @ 9 went down to the wire, Glenda Jefferies getting it done on countback with 19. Joel Smith set the pace with 40 points to win C Grade, Rhys Jenkins took A Grade on countback (36), and Frank Byrne led B Grade with 39.

Easter Monday’s Max Gale Stoney Creek 3 Ball was a great day for a great cause, with Liam O’Brien, Lachlan O’Brien and Joshua Hopkins winning with 102 points.

Tuesday’s Monthly Medal went to Carmel Cribbes with a nett 69, her first, ahead of Glenda Jefferies (72). Marj Lang rolled 27 putts, with birdies to Jan Barratt and Jane Anderson.

Course closed Monday 6th April until 3pm for the Max Gale Stoney Greek 3-ball event, please plan your rounds around the closure as the course will be unavailable during this time.

If you’re still keen for a hit, our previous weeks A-grade champion Tom Summers has taken things to Mount Bogong to dial in the swing, setting the bar slightly higher than usual.
