A big congratulations to our legends who graded today at the JVI Dan Gradings. Our guys were awesome! They worked really hard in preparation, and their performances today were absolutely fantastic. They truly earned their new black belts.

Tani achieved his NiDan.
Steve earned his long overdue and well-deserved ShoDan.
Alex proudly earned his ShoDan.

Special thanks to young Aiden, who stepped in as Alex’s crash test dummy. Although he wasn’t grading, he selflessly endured being thrown hundreds of times this week to help the others prepare!

Huge congratulations to these outstanding young Judoka who smashed their gradings last night with flying colours! You’ve all been working incredibly hard — your focus, grit and team spirit shone through. Those new belts are well earned. Keep that momentum, keep having fun, and keep turning up to train like champions. Well done, everyone!

A huge shout-out to Aiden, one of Waverley Judo’s cherished members. Having joined the club at age 10, Aiden is now 20 and began growing his hair back in February 2025 specifically to support leukemia research through the “World’s Greatest Shave” charity. Today marked the moment when, after training, he finally cut off his long hair. Aiden’s family, like many others, has been affected by cancer—he lost his aunt to breast cancer when she was only 41. Demonstrating great maturity, Aiden delivered a heartfelt speech to his training partners, family, and friends, expressing gratitude for their encouragement, good wishes, and donations towards this meaningful cause, dedicating his haircut to those who have passed away. Congratulations, Aiden, and thanks also to the generosity of Waverley Judo Club and its members for helping Aiden raise $2,000 for leukemia research.

A huge thanks to all the magnificent members, family members and coaches of Waverley Judo Club for a brilliant year in 2025! Your commitment, passion and camaraderie have truly made our club feel like a second home. From hard-fought matches to shared laughs after training, it’s been a ripper of a year filled with memorable moments.

Our humble little club is going from strength to strength every year and we're planning for bigger and better things in 2026.

Congratulations to everyone who graded this year. All up, 40 people received new belts - a record for Waverley Judo. Your dedication and hard work have paid off, and you should all be chuffed with your achievements. These milestones are a testament to the teamwork and spirit that define our club.

On behalf of the coaches and committee, have a wonderful Christmas and a happy and safe new year. Take the time to relax, recharge and enjoy the festive season with your loved ones. We can’t wait to see you all back on the mat next year, ready for another legendary chapter at Waverley Judo Club!
