Waverley Blues Welcome New Senior Assistant Coaches for 2025

The Waverley Blues are excited to introduce our new senior assistant coaches, who will play a key role in guiding the team through the 2025 season under new head coach Sam Bates.

Welcome, Brad Taws!

Brad brings a wealth of experience, having held assistant coaching roles at:
• Blackburn (2011–2012)
• Carey (2013)
• Vermont (2014–2017)
• Wantirna South (2022)
• Oakleigh Districts (2024)

He has quickly settled into the club and is already making a strong impact. We’re thrilled to have Brad on board and extend a warm welcome to his family—Annetta, Ella, and Riley!

Welcome, Sean Young!

Sean also joins the Blues as a senior assistant, bringing an impressive playing and coaching background:
• 2014 Senior Premiership Player – Wantirna
• 2017 Senior B&F Runner-Up – Wantirna
• 2017 EFNL Division 1 Team of the Year – Wantirna
• Team of the Decade – Wantirna
• 2019 Under-19s Assistant Coach – Wantirna

Sean’s leadership and experience will be a great asset to the group. We’re delighted to welcome Sean and his partner, Prateeti, to the club!

Join the Waverley Blues Under-18 girls’ team!
Whether you’re a pro or trying footy for the first time, we’ll help you build skills, make new friends, and discover what it means to be part of a team. Everyone’s welcome—come give it a go!

Training starts this Wednesday 29th January at Mount Waverley Secondary College senior oval. 5.30-6.30 pm.

The Waverley Blues Juniors will be holding its annual Registration Night at Community Bank Pinewood Reserve on Wednesday 19th February from 5pm. This will be the first official club event for the year and will be a great opportunity to register your child, meet the coaches, and reunite with parents & teammates.

will be in attendance to fit mouthguards for all those growing teeth!

Sausage Sizzle and drinks available for purchase.

Balls will be out for a kick on the oval.

AFL will be hosting a clinic on the ground as well.

Mt Waverley Reserve Re-development update Jan 25
- some great views from the new playground, now with shelter, a bbq, water fountain and soon to be installed p***c toilets nearby 🛝
- the views should be even better from the pavilion balcony- with 1st level works commencing soon. 😎
- works are underway for the new cricket training nets too for 🏏
- main oval is now open for public use and is in fantastic condition 👌

COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT

We’re excited to announce that Tommy Miles will step into the role of Development Coach for the 2025 season.

A familiar figure at the Blues, Tommy rejoined the club in 2018 following stints in the VFL with Box Hill and Coburg. He is a 2008 premiership player, earning the Best on Ground medal as a 16-year-old.

This is a fantastic appointment for our club, and we can’t wait for the season ahead. Tommy will be supported by another familiar face, James Hansen.

We are pleased to announce that KYLE VICCARS has signed with the club full time for season 2025 after spending the last two years at Pt Melbourne in the VFL and prior to that in Premier Division EFNL.

A former junior, 19’s & senior player for the blues, we welcomed back Kyle in 2024 as his home club .

We are extremely excited to have Kyle back at the blues full time!!

🚨 **Exciting Coach Announcements for 2025!** 🚨

We’re thrilled to confirm that Clint Martin has signed on as our Senior Women’s Coach for 2025! 🎉

Clint has done an outstanding job leading our team since we relaunched women’s football two years ago.

With a strong squad, we can’t wait to see what the team will achieve next season under his leadership.

And the excitement doesn’t stop there! We’re delighted to welcome Lucy “Milko” Milkeraitis as our Assistant Coach. 🙌

Milko made an immediate impact when she joined us late last season, bringing valuable experience and a commanding voice on the field. We’re looking forward to seeing her contribute both on and off the field.

COACHING UPDATE

This week the Club has been informed by both Senior Coach Scott Savage and Reserves Coach Will Mittell, that they’ll be stepping down from their roles for the upcoming 2025 season.

On behalf of the Waverley Blues community we’d like to share our sincere thanks to both Scott and Will for their massive contribution and passion to our Club, especially over the last few years. Importantly both will remain involved with the club next year and ongoing, and both have left a long lasting legacy in helping develop our players, coaching staff and officials for years to come.

As a life member, premiership player and best and fairest winner of the Club, Scott’s has nearly done everything for the Waverley Blues. The decision for him to step down wasn’t easy given his passion for the club for over 30 years. This decision does allow him to focus more on family and work going forward, including supporting his daughters who play in our netball teams and eldest daughter who begins her senior football career with us also next year.

Will also stepped into the Reserves coaching role to test the waters in coaching after injury cut short his promising playing career. His passion to stay connected to our Club originally as a Team Runner then coach was fantastic to see, along with his families ongoing connections to the Club after originally moving down to Melbourne from regional Victoria.

The Club is now formally open to applications for both the Senior Coach and Reserves coach role for 2025 and beyond. If interested in applying please contact us via social media or [email protected], and we’ll be in touch in person or phone for a discussion.

Both Scott and Will will also be around on Sunday for the U19s Grand Final, and also at Vote Count and Presentation Day.
